Today, we celebrate not just the survival of democracy in Nigeria, but the power of informed and active citizenship.

Democracy is strongest when citizens understand the Constitution, engage in governance, and hold leaders accountable. The future of our nation depends not on spectators, but on citizens who participate, question, and contribute.

As we mark this Democracy Day, let us recommit ourselves to the values of civic responsibility, national unity, and good governance.

Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria.

Today marks seven years of the Electoral College Nigeria.

What began as a vision to confront political illiteracy has grown into a nationally rooted and internationally recognised movement dedicated to advancing political literacy, constitutional awareness, democratic values, and responsible citizenship across Nigeria.

Over the past seven years, we have received more than 50,000 registrations and successfully trained and graduated over 16,000 Nigerians through structured learning programmes, debates, governance dialogues, media engagements, and civic education initiatives. From communities to institutions, our work has remained focused on strengthening citizens’ understanding of politics and governance.

We are honoured that our work has been acknowledged both locally and internationally, a recognition that reinforces the urgency and relevance of civic education in sustaining democracy.

We remain deeply grateful to our partners, including Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development
, Embassy of Sweden in Nigeria, National Endowment for Democracy, Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity, Pop Central TV, as well as many other institutions, collaborators, and individuals who continue to believe in this mission.

However, while we mark this seventh anniversary, we do so with a heavy sense of responsibility to the present realities of our country. Due to the current state of insecurity and in deep concern for the children and families affected particularly the children still in captivity, we have chosen to acknowledge this milestone without proceeding with planned celebratory activities.

Our commitment to Nigeria remains unchanged. But in moments like this, reflection must take precedence over celebration.

As we move forward, we reaffirm our dedication to building a more informed citizenry, strengthening democratic culture, and advocating for a Nigeria where safety, dignity, and justice are not privileges, but guarantees.

Seven years on, the mission continues with greater urgency, deeper resolve, and renewed responsibility.

For the love of country
