AUGUST MESSAGE

Dear Partners in Service,

Happy New Month!

Welcome to August, Membership and New Club Development Month.

As we settle into the Rotary year, this month gives us an opportunity to reflect on something very important: people. Every thriving club is built on people who feel seen, valued, and inspired to serve. Membership is not just about inviting new faces, it’s about creating an experience that makes people want to stay, grow, and contribute.

I encourage every club to be intentional this month. Reach out to someone who has been away. Introduce a friend to Rotaract. Mentor a new member. Support your club leaders. Small actions like these strengthen our fellowship and shape the future of our district.

Growth is not measured only by numbers but by the quality of leaders we develop, the relationships we build, and the impact we make together.

As we continue this journey, let us remain united in purpose, committed to service, and intentional about building clubs that will thrive for years to come.

Thank you for all you do for Rotaract District 9127. Your passion, sacrifice, and commitment continue to move our district forward, and I am confident that together, we will achieve even greater things.

Have a fulfilling and impactful August.

Yours in Rotaract Service,

EPISODE 5: THE FIRST MISTAKE

A few days after the community project, Daniel arrived at the fellowship hall feeling proud.

The refreshments had been delivered.

The project was successful.

For the first time, he felt like he was becoming a useful member of the club.

As members settled into their seats, President Miriam stood up.

"Before we begin today's fellowship," she said, "I'd like us to review our last project. Every project teaches us something."

Daniel smiled.

He expected compliments.

Instead, the Project Chair raised a hand.

"I noticed something," she said. "Some of our volunteers didn't receive water until almost an hour after the project ended."

Daniel's smile faded.

That part of the refreshments was his responsibility.

He remembered the confusion that morning. In the rush to solve one problem, he had forgotten to assign someone to distribute the water.

The room was quiet.

Daniel felt embarrassed.

He expected someone to scold him.

But President Miriam simply asked, "Daniel, what happened?"

He took a deep breath.

"I made a mistake," he admitted. "I was so focused on getting the refreshments to the venue that I forgot about distribution. I'm sorry."

There was silence for a moment.

Then Miriam smiled.

"Thank you."

Daniel looked up, confused.

"Thank you for being honest," she continued. "In leadership, mistakes happen. What matters is taking responsibility and learning from them."

She turned to the rest of the members.

"Can anyone suggest how we can avoid this next time?"

Hands went up around the room.

"We should have a checklist."

"Each task should have a specific volunteer."

"We should hold a quick briefing before every project."

Daniel quickly wrote every suggestion in his notebook.

By the end of the discussion, he realized something important.

Nobody was trying to embarrass him.

They were trying to help him become better.

As the meeting ended, Club Secretary Samuel walked beside him.

"You know," he said with a grin, "your first mistake is officially out of the way."

Daniel laughed.

"I was hoping nobody would notice."

Samuel chuckled.

"If you're serving, people will notice both your successes and your mistakes. Don't let either one define you."

On his way home, Daniel opened his notebook and wrote three words across a fresh page:

Learn. Improve. Repeat.

It was a simple reminder.

Leadership wasn't about being perfect.

It was about growing, one lesson at a time.

To be continued...

Esteemed Volunteers,

WORLD HEPATITIS DAY

Every year on July 28, the world observes World Hepatitis Day to increase awareness of viral hepatitis and inspire action toward its elimination. This year’s theme, Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down, reminds us that eliminating hepatitis requires breaking down barriers to awareness, testing, prevention, and treatment while ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to everyone.

Despite remarkable advances in medicine, viral hepatitis continues to affect millions of people globally. Many remain undiagnosed due to limited awareness, fear of stigma, and inadequate access to healthcare services. Yet, hepatitis B can be prevented through vaccination, and effective treatments are available for both hepatitis B and C. Early diagnosis remains one of the strongest tools in preventing severe liver disease and saving lives.

As Rotaractors, our commitment to service extends beyond community projects, it includes promoting healthy lifestyles, supporting public health initiatives, and empowering people with accurate health information. Through education, advocacy, and strategic partnerships, we can help our communities make informed decisions that reduce the burden of hepatitis.

Today, I encourage every Rotaractor and every member of District 9127 to take simple but impactful steps:
- Prioritize routine hepatitis screening.
- Receive the Hepatitis B vaccine if eligible.
- Practice healthy habits that reduce the risk of infection.
- Replace stigma with compassion and misinformation with facts.

Together, let us continue to uphold Rotary’s commitment to Disease Prevention and Treatment by fostering healthier, more informed communities. Every conversation, every awareness campaign, and every life reached brings us one step closer to a future where hepatitis is no longer a public health threat.

YIS,

D’ COMPASS
