Fada Bishop Onah and Elderly Mama

During the opening Mass of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Osogbo Pastoral Center, a quiet yet profound moment of grace unfolded.

An elderly woman innocently walked into the sanctuary and took a seat directly behind the concelebrating bishops. While liturgical rules typically restrict the sanctuary to officiating clergy, that prompted an usher to politely direct her elsewhere.

At this circumstance, Bishop Godfrey Onah (Bishop of Nsukka) gently intervened. Stopping the usher, Bishop Onah welcomed her to stay and worship peacefully right beside them.
In a world governed by strict rules, this simple act reminds us that true worship centers on Christ-like love, pastoral charity, and opening our hearts to everyone.

Today we celebrate Saint Teresa of Calcutta, a radiant icon of God's tender mercy whose tireless love quenched the thirst of Jesus in the poorest of the poor.

St. Teresa of Calcutta, known worldwide as Mother Teresa, is one of the most recognizable saints of modern times. Her life of radical charity and service to the poorest of the poor continues to inspire people of all faiths and backgrounds.

Named Agnes at birth in 1910, she grew up in Skopje in North Macedonia. She felt called to religious life and joined the Sisters of Loreto, later traveling to India, where she taught at a school in Calcutta for two decades. She became known as a dedicated teacher and later served as the school’s principal.

In 1946, as she traveled by train, she experienced what she later described as a “call within a call.” She felt Jesus inviting her to leave the convent school and serve Him among the poor and destitute in the streets of Calcutta. After a period of discernment and approval from Church authorities, she left the Sisters of Loreto and began her new mission.

Four years later, she founded the Order of Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation devoted to serving “the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers.” The sisters lived among the poor, offering care and support with dignity, love, and spiritual comfort.

One of her most significant works was establishing a home for the dying destitute called Nirmal Hriday (Pure Heart), where those who had been abandoned on the streets were given care, companionship, and the opportunity to die with dignity. Mother Teresa often described this work as “doing something beautiful for God.”

Although she experienced prolonged periods of spiritual dryness, she remained faithful to her mission and exemplified compassion and joy in serving the most vulnerable. As her global recognition grew, she received numerous honors. She was a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Yet she was humble, pointing attention away from herself and toward Christ present in the suffering.

St. Teresa of Calcutta died on September 5, 1997, and was canonized in 2016. Beginning with twelve recruits, her Missionaries of Charity grew to five thousand nuns and 450 priests serving in 138 countries worldwide.

FATHER OF CARDINAL TAGLE PASSES AWAY
The father of Cardinal Chito Tagle, has passed away, prompting prayers and condolences from family, friends, and members of the community.

In a statement announcing his death, the family and those close to them asked the faithful to pray for the repose of his soul and to seek God’s comfort and strength for his loved ones as they mourn his passing.

The bereaved family commends his soul to God’s loving mercy and asks for continued prayers during this time of grief.

“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.”

267 Days in Captivity – A Priest Still Waiting to Come Home.

We are reporting today on a story that must never become old.

We are reporting that Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ezema, a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Zaria, Nigeria, has been in captivity for 267 days since his abduction on December 2, 2025.

We are reporting that his name must not be forgotten, and we call for continued prayer, remembrance, and action. We are praying for his protection, strength, and release, as well as for his family, parish, diocese, and all Nigerians affected by insecurity.

We are urging security authorities to act urgently.

The Catholic Diocese of Okigwe has announced the death of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. (Barr.) Anthony Chidi Uzodimma Onyenagada, who died in the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Fr. Anthony was born on September 20, 1971, and was ordained a Catholic priest on August 9, 1996.
According to the Diocese, he served diligently in various administrative capacities and was a former Rector of the Spiritual Year Seminary. He was also described as an unassuming pastor of souls who served in different parishes across the Diocese of Okigwe.

At the time of his death, Fr. Anthony was serving as the Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish, Ikperejere, Ihitte/Uboma L.G.A.
The Diocese has called on the faithful to offer their prayers for the happy repose of his soul.

Born: September 20, 1971
Ordained: August 9, 1996
Died: August 18, 2026

Fr Onyenagada celebrated his 30th priestly anniversary on the 9th August, and passed away on the 18th August; 9 days after his priestly anniversary celebration.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen

Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, says the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) will not engage in a public war of words with the Presidency over its recent message on the state of the nation.

Speaking in response to the Presidency's criticism of the bishops' communiqué, Onaiyekan said the Church had fulfilled its moral responsibility by speaking on issues affecting Nigerians and had no intention of exchanging insults or arguments with government officials. He stressed that the bishops' message was not aimed at attacking the government but at drawing attention to the country's challenges and encouraging those in authority to take corrective action.

He added that the Catholic Church would continue to pray for Nigeria and offer constructive advice whenever necessary, maintaining that its interventions are guided by the public interest rather than politics. He also urged the government to focus on addressing insecurity, economic hardship and other pressing national issues instead of reacting defensively to criticism.

Onaiyekan reaffirmed that the Church remains committed to promoting peace, justice and good governance, insisting that its mission is to speak the truth with love while working for the common good of all Nigerians.

A Catholic priest in the Diocese of Warri which name has not been identify has gone viral after rejecting the bags of rice branded with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors label, of President Bola Tinubu describing it as a symbol of misplaced government priorities.

According to the priest, officials delivered the rice to his residence for distribution to parishioners. He condemned the gesture, arguing that government should focus on solving the country’s economic challenges instead of distributing food during the election season.

The cleric criticized what he described as the enormous public funds being spent on rice distribution, calling it an irresponsible approach to governance. He said he had never witnessed what he described as such a level of primitive wickedness.

The video has triggered widespread reactions on social media, where many users mockingly renamed the donation Renewed Hopelessness rice. Supporters of the priest and Nigerians praised his stance, saying it reflects growing public frustration over short term palliatives and concerns that such initiatives could be seen as attempts to influence voters ahead of future elections.

The development comes amid continued public debate over Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and follows his recent engagement with Catholic bishops on national issues.
