2027 isn’t about the lesser evil anymore.🤷‍♂️It’s about whether YOU can hold whoever wins accountable after they win.

They’ll come for your vote soon, remember this quote when campaign season starts 🙏🏽

Reassigning public-use land without clear documentation, verified compliance, or timely disclosure raises broader concerns about due process, environmental safeguards, and adherence to the law.

We formally wrote to the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), ICPC Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Environment, and the Federal Ministry of Justice, requesting an institutional review of land administration and public asset management in the FCT.

This builds on our earlier FOI request to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on the redevelopment of Jabi Lake Park, where access to key procurement, planning, and environmental records remains limited.

When these gaps persist, the issue is no longer one project, it becomes systemic.

The responsibility now lies with the institutions to provide clarity and uphold public trust.

Abuja residents are still waiting for the promise of cleaner communities to become reality. Months after the FCT Minister deployed 54 waste contractors, service delivery remains inconsistent, awareness of reporting channels is low, and illegal dumping continues to choke our environment.

Polluted environment as a result of uncollected waste highlights a clear gap between policy and everyday realities. Accountability in waste management is urgent for public health, environmental sustainability, and trust in governance.

Last month, we focused on a critical shift. Nigeria is moving from policy to delivery, where the real test is results. As reforms advance across sectors, we examine the growing gap between system-level progress and what citizens actually experience. From public resource decisions to and service delivery, this edition explores where systems are working and where they are falling short.

Choosing the “lesser evil” is still a choice that keeps the bar low.

Real change demands more and active citizenship means asking questions, demanding clarity, and showing up before decisions are made, not after.

Young creatives are increasingly using their platforms to challenge dominant narratives and bring human-centered, socio-political issues into the mainstream.

In partnership with , we engaged a growing community of creators, exploring how their work can move beyond private expression into the public sphere where it can inform conversations, shape perspectives, and influence systems.

The session focused on strengthening how creatives communicate their ideas, emphasizing that for content to drive impact, it must be intentional, accessible, and grounded in issues that affect everyday lives, particularly around , access to information, and online safety.

As digital platforms continue to shape public discourse, supporting creators to tell more rights-focused, socially conscious stories is essential to amplifying voices and keeping the government in check.

“A lot of people don’t even know where to report when their digital rights are violated.”Participants

In , young people, media practitioners, and civil society actors shared how misinformation, harassment, data misuse, and even intimidation shape how they show up online, often leading to silence or self-censorship.

Through our Data and Digital Rights Training, 47 participants strengthened their understanding of digital rights, fact-checking, and data protection, while gaining practical knowledge of reporting tools like and available redress pathways.

By the end of the sessions, participants moved from uncertainty to action with a shared commitment to report violations, verify information, and engage more responsibly online.

Strengthening awareness and accessible reporting pathways is key to making digital spaces safer, inclusive, and accountable for all.

When public spaces are earmarked for redevelopment, citizens have a right to understand how decisions are made and the basis for them.

Following reports on the redevelopment of Jabi Lake Recreational Park, we have formally requested detailed records from .

Public assets should be managed in a way that is open to scrutiny, aligned with planning standards, and reflective of the interests of residents. Our request is straightforward: provide the documents and processes that informed this decision.

Public spending in Nigeria too often rewards connections over outcomes.

Projects get funded, contracts get awarded, but impact rarely follows.

Who is public money really serving?

As Nigeria moves closer to 2027, the recent directive by the raises important questions about how we balance regulation with fundamental rights. While promoting fairness, accuracy, and curbing hate speech are necessary, enforcement must not come at the cost of or citizens’ right to expression.

A free and responsible media keeps the government in check and ensures citizens are informed, engaged, and empowered.
