The Nigerian Economic Society yesterday successfully convened the 2026 Economic Outlook, bringing together policymakers, economists, multilateral institutions, and key stakeholders for a timely and rigorous reflection on Nigeriaโs economic trajectory and reform priorities. The programme was ably chaired by Dr .Sarah Alade, while the keynote address delivered by Dr. Mahmud Hassan set the tone for rich, forward-looking and policy-relevant discourse. The Economic Outlook itself was succinctly presented by Dr. Yaaba Baba Nmadu, providing a concise analytical framing for the dayโs engagements.
A defining highlight was the Fireside Chat with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organization, whose incisive reflections on global trade dynamics and their implications for Africa and Nigeria provided both depth and strategic clarity. The panel session, expertly chaired and moderated by Prof. Ekpo, fostered robust engagement across diverse perspectives, while the event was seamlessly anchored by Mrs. Nancy Illoh-Nnaji.
The strong institutional presence, including the Central Bank of Nigeria and Bank of Industry Limited, alongside participation from the International Monetary Fund and the The World Bank Group, further underscored the significance of coordinated, evidence-based policy dialogue in navigating current economic realities.
We commend Dr. Baba Yusuf Musa and the Governing Council of the Society for delivering a highly impactful and intellectually enriching engagement that continues to shape the economic policy discourse in Nigeria.
