Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change-CREACC We aim at reaching underserved and hard to reach communities with access to clean energy and portable water supply in rural areas of Nigeria

CREAACC is a multi faceted organisation that is focused facilitating efficient and clean energy supply, conduct research on how to mitigate climate change especially among rural communities in Nigeria. As Climate Change remains a challenge and a threat to our own civilization we therefore focus on the promotion and creating environmental awareness for our communities within urban and rural areas with focus on energy access, addressing water crisis and helping hard to reach rural communities adapt to climate change.

Transforming Rural Energy Infrastructure: CREACC-NG at the Official Launch of RAMCO

Today at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja , the Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG joined key stakeholders for the official launch of the Renewable Asset Management Company (RAMCO)—a joint initiative by the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria (REA), Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), and InfraCorp.

As the off-grid sector rapidly scales, ensuring long-term technical reliability, effective operations and maintenance, and sustainable capital recycling is critical for lasting impact in rural communities. The establishment of hashtag represents a structural milestone in moving Nigeria’s clean energy landscape from initial project deployment to bankable, long-term asset management.

At CREACC-NG, we remain committed to collaborating with public and private sector partners to advance sustainable energy access, de-risk community-level climate infrastructure, and drive clean energy transitions across Nigeria.

Reflecting on Compassion, Community, and Stewardship this Eid-el-Maulud 🌙✨

As Muslim faithful across Nigeria and around the world celebrate Maulud Nabiy—the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)—the team at CREACC Nigeria sends warm greetings of peace, joy, and unity.

Maulud is not only a time for celebration, but also a moment for deep reflection on the timeless values of empathy, service to humanity, and responsible leadership.

In the context of today’s climate and development challenges, these teachings remind us of our collective duty to protect the Earth and lift up vulnerable communities:

Strengthening Institutional Partnerships: EPO–NHA–CREACC Visit to Western Naval Command

Strengthening Strategic Partnerships for Nigeria’s Coastal and Maritime Resilience

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration around coastal resilience, marine resources, hydrography and environmental sustainability, the Ecological Project Office (EPO) under Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), National Hydrographic Agency (Nigeria), and Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG undertook a strategic engagement at the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command, Apapa, Lagos last week.

The delegation including Permanent Secretery, EPO, Dr Aeshetu Gogo Ndayako, Hydrographer of the Federation, Rear Admiral OO. Fadahunsi, our Advisory Council Member and Executive Director Dr IMAMUDDEEN TALBA, Dr Usman Muhammad (Mareri), PhD and other team members paid a courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, as part of efforts to deepen cooperation among key institutions working across Nigeria's maritime and coastal environment.

The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss the importance of stronger coordination between environmental, hydrographic and maritime institutions, particularly as Nigeria faces increasing challenges associated with , , , degradation and the sustainable management of hashtag .

Our collaboration with EPO and NHA continues to demonstrate the importance of bringing together government institutions, technical experts and strategic partners to develop practical solutions for Nigeria's coastal and marine environment.

We appreciate the Western Naval Command for receiving the delegation and for the continued importance placed on cooperation in safeguarding Nigeria's maritime environment.

Partnerships are essential. Data is critical. Collaboration is the pathway to resilience.

Field Technical Mission: Bathymetric Survey and Coastal Assessment

🌊 From Policy to Fieldwork: Assessing Nigeria’s Coastal Environment

A major highlight of the EPO–NHA–CREACC-NG technical mission to Lagos was a field reconnaissance of the Lagos coastal area, from FOB Badagry towards Oku, where the team had the opportunity to observe ongoing bathymetric survey activities being undertaken by the National Hydrographic Agency (Nigeria), Ecological Project Office and Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG.

The CREACC team, including our Executive Director, Dr. Usman Muhammad (Mareri), PhD, joined colleagues from the, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Ecological Project Office and NHA to gain first-hand insight into the technical realities of Nigeria's coastal environment.

The field assessment provided an opportunity to observe and discuss:
🌊 Bathymetric and hydrographic surveys
🌱 Mangrove degradation
💧 Coastal flooding and flood plains
🐟 Marine resources
🌍 Coastal ecosystem resilience
📊 The importance of reliable marine and environmental data

For CREACC-NG, this engagement reinforces a fundamental principle: effective environmental policy must be supported by evidence from the field.
Bathymetric and hydrographic information can play an important role in understanding coastal processes, supporting planning, improving flood-risk assessment and strengthening the evidence base for climate adaptation and ecological restoration.

We are particularly interested in how hydrographic data, climate science, GIS, oceanography, ecological restoration and blue-carbon approaches can be brought together to develop integrated solutions for Nigeria's coastal communities. The survey will also use Landsat Imagery and Copernicus Marine Service for historical data on the Lagos Coastline, to aid 3D modelling of the coastline.

The Lagos coastline presents both significant challenges and enormous opportunities.

🏭🌊 Connecting Industrial Development with Coastal Resilience and Community Livelihoods

As part of the Ecological Project Office (EPO) Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), National Hydrographic Agency (Nigeria) and Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG technical mission in Lagos, the delegation engaged with the Health, Safety, Social and Environmental Sustainability Team of Dangote Petroleum & Petrochemicals Refinery.

The engagement focused on the relationship between large-scale industrial development, environmental sustainability and the resilience of communities within surrounding coastal areas.

Discussions covered important issues including:
🌊 Coastal flooding and climate risks
🐟 Marine resources
👥 Coastal community livelihoods
🌱 Environmental sustainability
🏘️ Community resilience

Industrial development and environmental sustainability should not be viewed as competing objectives. With the right systems, data, partnerships and investments, economic development can be aligned with environmental protection, climate resilience and improved community livelihoods.

The visit also provided an opportunity to better understand the practical measures being implemented around health, safety, social responsibility and environmental sustainability within the refinery environment.

CREACC-NG remains committed to facilitating partnerships that connect science, policy, industry and communities in addressing Nigeria's environmental and climate challenges.

Communities and Sustainability: Learning from the Lagos Coastal Landscape

🌱🌊 Seeing Coastal Resilience Through the Eyes of Communities

The EPO–NHA–CREACC-NG Lagos technical mission concluded with an important field engagement involving a visit to the Dangote Petroleum & Petrochemicals and observation of surrounding fishing communities.

The visit allowed the delegation to observe first-hand the interaction between industrial activity, coastal ecosystems and community livelihoods.

For Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG, this aspect of the mission was particularly important.
Nigeria's coastal communities depend heavily on marine and natural resources for their livelihoods. At the same time, these communities are increasingly exposed to challenges such as coastal flooding, ecosystem degradation, changing marine conditions and climate-related risks.

Understanding these realities requires more than desk-based assessments.
It requires field engagement, community perspectives, scientific data and direct interaction with stakeholders.

The visit also provided an opportunity to observe approaches to health, safety, social responsibility and environmental sustainability within the industrial environment.

Going forward, CREACC-NG sees significant opportunities to strengthen collaboration around:

The Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG was pleased to participate in the 5th REEEA-A International Investment and Partnership Conference, bringing together key stakeholders, investors, development partners, policymakers, and leading actors across Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.

A special highlight of the event was the gracious address delivered by Dr. IMAMUDDEEN TALBA, Member of the CREACC-NG Advisory Council and Pioneer Chairman of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations(REEEA)-Alliance. His contribution reflected the importance of strong leadership, collaboration, investment, and partnerships in accelerating Nigeria’s transition to a sustainable and resilient energy future.

Today, the Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG joins young people and organisations around the world in celebrating International Youth Day.

Young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow—they are already driving innovation, climate action, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development today.

At CREACC-NG, we believe that meaningful investment in youth means providing them with the knowledge, skills, networks, and opportunities to participate actively in addressing the challenges facing our communities and planet.

Through our youth-focused programmes, including climate education, renewable energy training, environmental sustainability initiatives, mentorship, and the The Usman Mareri Fellowship for Young Leaders (UMFYL), we continue to support young people to become informed leaders and agents of positive change.

🌍 What We Heard on the Streets: Plastic Waste Is a Shared Responsibility

During the street engagement on proper waste disposal, we listened to members of the public about their experiences and everyday practices around waste.

One message came through clearly: plastic waste is one of the most common forms of waste found on our streets.

Interestingly, many participants openly acknowledged that they too sometimes contribute to the problem, particularly through the improper disposal of pure water sachets and other plastic waste.

But the conversation did not stop at individual responsibility.

Many participants emphasized that tackling environmental waste requires both individual action and effective government intervention, from responsible disposal by citizens to better waste collection, management systems, public awareness, and enforcement.

These honest responses remind us that environmental sustainability is not about pointing fingers. It is about recognizing our role, understanding the challenges, and taking collective action.

At Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG, we will continue to create spaces where communities can speak, listen, learn, and contribute to solutions for a cleaner and more sustainable Nigeria.
