Youth power is not just a buzzword; it is the engine of democratic renewal!

Last week, the Abuja Hub proudly partnered with Yiaga Africa and RID Nigeria for a high-impact conversation on "Democratic Renewal in the Global South: Civic Activism, Leadership, and Youth Power".

Having Pedro Abramovay (Vice President of the Open Society Foundations) in the room brought incredible depth to our discussions. We are moving completely beyond the era of just asking for a seat at the table. Young people are actively co-creating the policies and leadership frameworks that will define our future.

The energy in the room was unmatched. Swipe through to see the highlights!

What if the plastic waste on our streets could send a child to school?

We are making it happen! The Abuja Hub is officially calling for volunteers for Recycle for Education 2.0 (R4E). Our goal is bold and actionable. We are turning 10,000kg of waste into direct educational support for 200 children in vulnerable communities right here in Abuja.

If you are passionate about climate action, community impact, and education, we need you on the team. R4E kicks off this August, and the work starts now.

The deadline to apply is 31st July 2026.

Hit the link in our bio or go to bit.ly/R4EChamps to fill out the Google form and secure your spot.

"You can't tweet your way into democracy!"

That was the exact energy on the streets of Garki for our third civic action drive. We were out there reminding everyone that bad governance is expensive, but registration is completely free. Our team was on the ground helping people check their status and encouraging them to make their voices count.

Now, INEC has made the process even easier. The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) deadline has officially been extended to July 28, 2026.

Skip the initial queues and start your registration online at cvr.inecnigeria.org.

The window is wide open, and there are zero excuses left. Watch the highlights, tag a friend who still needs to register, and let’s get it done! 🇳🇬

Exactly one week ago today, the Abuja Global Shapers Pink Project team turned Wuse Market pink for the first breast cancer awareness outreach.

Together with our dedicated volunteers, we engaged market men and women in conversations about breast cancer, the risk factors, symptoms to watch out for, and simple self-examination routine that can help with early detection.

Beyond sharing information, we also listened. People told us what they had heard about breast cancer, where they heard it and the questions they still had.

Some of the common misconceptions were that only women can have breast cancer and that every breast lump is cancerous. Through our team of health professionals, we clarified that men can also have breast cancer, not all breast lumps are cancerous, and regular self-examination and early detection can lead to timely treatment with no complications.

A special appreciation to our partners, Nona Foundation and Call Off Cancer Initiative, for their invaluable support in making this first phase of the Pink Project a success.

Here’s a look back at , which we held on Sunday, June 28.

The theme of this edition was “Living on the Edge: Can an Unsafe Nigeria Keep its Youth?”

Our speakers gave us so much to think about, from unpacking the root causes of migration—like insecurity, lack of jobs, and institutional decay—to highlighting existing solutions and the power of civic accountability.

Shoutout to our incredible panel, Aida Oluwagbemiga (Brand, Marketing and Communications Executive, Alternative Bank), Faruk Hamidu (Group Head, Debt Capital Market, Bank of Industry), 'Kunle Adebajo (AAOSI Editor, Code for Africa), and our moderator Maryam Gidado! 👏🏽👏🏽

We also loved the energy during our breakout sessions, where everyone had a voice, and the vibrant networking between our hub members and the amazing Non-Shapers who joined us.

Thank you to everyone who came out! 💙

We are incredibly proud to share that our Curator, Solape Sonuga, joined the Opening Plenary of the 2026 Global Shapers Annual Summit in Geneva, Switzerland! Hosted by the World Economic Forum, Global Shapers in partnership with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the summit gathered over 450 community builders from 120+ countries to map out the future of leadership.

Out of hundreds of global leaders, Solape was one of only two Shapers selected to address the flagship opening session, "Signals for the Future."

Sharing the panel with global leaders like Marc Benioff, Daren Tang, and .shuyue, Solape championed a shift in youth civic engagement, drawing on her extensive work with the Legislative Mentorship Initiative:
"The future of public leadership is not about governing for young people, but governing with them."

She futher challenged sectors worldwide to move past tokenistic check-the-box exercises and ask a harder question: "Can young people point to a decision that changed because they were in the room?"

With 17 vibrant Shaper hubs across Nigeria driving local impact, this moment reminds us that our grassroots solutions have immense global relevance. The ideas, partnerships, and conversations from Geneva reaffirm that the solutions emerging from our communities have an important place in shaping the world's future.
