📢 Advancing Disability-Inclusive SRHR Policy in Nigeria

On 9 September 2026, with support from under the PAMOJA II Project, Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI) convened a Pre-Launch Sensitization Workshop on the Chapter of the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Policy and Strategic Action Plan for Persons with Disabilities.

The one-day workshop brought together key stakeholders, including government institutions, Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), international development partners, national civil society organisations, and the media.

The engagement provided an important platform to strengthen stakeholder awareness, foster collaboration, and build collective commitment towards advancing inclusive, accessible and rights-based SRHR policies and services for persons with disabilities.

At VDI, we believe that disability inclusion must be at the heart of SRHR policy and practice. No one should be left behind.

Together, let’s advance policies that uphold dignity, equality, accessibility and the SRHR of persons with disabilities.

As part of activities under the PAMOJA II Project, on 28th July, 2026, VDI visited the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), one of the project’s national stakeholders.

VDI Engages ARFH on the PAMOJA II Project

On 17th July 2026, Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI) paid an advocacy visit to one of the national stakeholders of the PAMOJA II Project - Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH).

The visit is part of the ongoing activities under PAMOJA II Project aimed at strengthening partnerships and advancing disability-inclusive health and development programming in Nigeria.

Together, we are working to ensure that women and girls with disabilities are not left behind.

On 10th July, 2026, VDI took menstrual dignity awareness to Stella Obasanjo Child Care Trust; a special needs boarding and day facility in Bwari, Abuja.

We didn’t just talk. We used simple, inclusive language, demonstrations, and love so every child could understand. We showed them how to use and dispose of pads properly and how to stay clean and healthy.

We taught them that menstruation is normal, natural, not a taboo and not a sickness. It is a sign of growth, health, and strength.

The students were also told that they deserve respect, dignity and care irrespective of their disabilities.

On 9th July 2026, Voice of Disability Initiative - VDI with support from Ambassade de France au Nigéria through held an inclusive Menstrual Health & Dignity session at Safe Host International Academy, Kurudu with special students, non-special students, and boys.

The students were taught that menstruation is normal — a sign of growth and health in women and girls. Students learned pad use, hygiene, and pain management.

It was emphasized that persons with disabilities also menstruate and give birth. They deserve accessible toilets, pads, and clean water, plus dignity, respect and protection not shame or stigma.

Girls were encouraged to speak up to mothers, teachers, or aunties. Boys were taught to support and respect girls during their period.
