The Election Is Over. The Lessons Must Not Be.

The votes have been cast, counted and the results declared. But the work of safeguarding democracy does not end with the announcement of the winner.

On Election Day, the EU-SDGN Election Observation Hub which deployed 823 accredited observers across all 30 LGAs of Osun State to independently observe the process. What our observers saw showed that voters largely participated peacefully and orderly, with notable participation by women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

While observers of the Hub recorded security incidents, electoral offences and irregularities, including vote trading, ballot paper exposure, voter obstruction, reported cases of intimidation, as well as documented challenges with BVAS functionality with most reported device failures subsequently resolved, we see that these observations matter beyond the announcement of result.

Inclusive elections require inclusive communication. 🗳️🤟

To bridge communication gaps and ensure no voter is left behind, TAF Africa, under the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU SDGN), deployed 25 Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) to polling units with a high number of voters with hearing impairment across Osun State.

From the polling units to the field, our SLIs are working to make more accessible, participatory, and inclusive for everyone.

Osun Decides Today!

As the Osun State Governorship Election takes place today, Saturday, 15 August 2026, the Election Observation Hub convened under the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) programme held its pre-election statement yesterday on the eve of election.

The Hub is jointly deploying 843 observers across Osun State to observe, document and report on the electoral process.

urges all voters, especially persons with Disabilities to participate fully, safely and without barriers in today’s election.

The EU-SDGN Election Observation Hub calls on INEC, security agencies, political parties and other stakeholders to facilitate inclusive participation through measures including priority voting, adequate assistive devices, transportation support and gender-sensitive security planning.
