Al Bashir Commits Support as TAGIP Moves to Empower Afo Girls on Menstrual Health
The Afo Girl Child Initiative Platform (TAGIP) and the Fathur Rahman Girl Child Empowerment Foundation, led by CEO and Convener Ramatu Abubakar and her team, today met with Hon. Muhammad Yerima Al Bashir, aspirant for the House of Representatives, Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, in Abuja.
The meeting featured a productive discussion focused on advancing the well-being of girls across Afo communities, particularly in the areas of health, education, skills development, and girl-child security. Hon. Al Bashir expressed strong zeal, will, and passion to address issues affecting the girl child, while fostering sustainable development across Afo lands and communities.
He also shared insightful ideas aimed at accelerating progress, emphasizing love, peaceful coexistence, forgiveness, and exemplary representation as critical foundations for meaningful development.
A key highlight of the visit was the solicitation of support for a one-day health seminar to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day. The seminar is designed to educate young women and girls on personal hygiene, urinary tract infections (UTIs), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and other related health concerns.
Hon. Al Bashir warmly received the delegation and pledged financial support to ensure the success of the initiative. He reaffirmed that peace and progress for his constituents remain his top priority.
The seminar aims to enhance health awareness, promote better menstrual hygiene practices, and empower girls to make informed decisions about their health and future. It is expected to contribute significantly to the broader empowerment of girls through knowledge and skills development.
Ramatu Abubakar commended Hon. Al Bashir’s commitment to the peace, progress, and well-being of his people. She underscored the vital role of supportive leadership in advancing girls’ health and education, noting that through collaboration with diverse partners, a safer and healthier environment can be created for every girl in Afo communities.
Next steps include finalizing the seminar programme, confirming the speaker lineup, and executing a comprehensive outreach plan. The team will also conclude funding arrangements and reporting expectations with Hon. Al Bashir, while coordinating with community partners, health professionals, and educators to maximize impact.
