African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development …Building strategic leadership for sustainable development in Africa.
https://centrelsd.org/who-we-are

We believe that strategic leadership is the cornerstone of sustainable development. But across Africa, the absence of visionary leadership, weak or inappropriate strategy, and flawed development models continues to entrench poverty, inequality, and institutional failure. Since 2010, Centre L*D has responded to these challenges by empowering citizens with the tools to lead ethically, think strategi

cally, and act decisively. Through leadership schools, strategy certification programmes, and people-centered development initiatives, we train ethical leaders, strengthen institutions, and empower communities. Our approach combines research, capacity building, advocacy, partnerships, and a strong rights-based framework. We collaborate with governments, donors, civil society, and grassroots organizations to create catalytic change. With a professional team, robust programming, and a clear Theory of Change, Centre L*D remains a trusted force for transformation, committed to unlocking Africa’s potential, one leader, one system, and one community at a time. Empowering boys is not in competition with empowering girls; it complements it.

To build a safer and more compassionate society, we must raise boys with empathy, emotional intelligence, respect, and shared humanity.

The goal is balance.
The goal is humanity.
The goal is a generation raised to heal, not harm.

Leadership is not only about tradition.
It is also about courage, responsibility, and speaking against injustice.

At the MFN National Summit, we were honoured to host HRM Agabaidu Dr. Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John, The Och’Idoma of the Idoma Kingdom, Benue State, and HRM Amb. (Dr.) Uchua Amos Uyimulam Item (JP), Paramount Ruler of Obanliku LGA, Cross River State, as they joined critical conversations on confronting the root causes of gender-based violence and building safer communities for all.

Highlights from the public presentation of "Building on Solid Ground: Primer on Resilience and Sustainability of CSOs in Africa" by Udo Jude Ilo.

The event brought together distinguished civic leaders, development practitioners, diplomats, and stakeholders for engaging conversations on the future of civil society organisations in Africa, particularly around resilience, sustainability, governance, leadership, innovation, and domestic resource mobilisation.

A major highlight of the event was the insightful review of the book by the Founding Executive Director of Centre L*D, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, who emphasised the urgent need for African CSOs to move from personality-driven activism to systems-driven institutional sustainability.

The event also featured a thought-provoking panel discussion with:
1. Dr. Hussaini Abdu, Country Director, CARE Nigeria
2. Amb. Bengt van Loosdrecht, Netherlands Ambassador to Nigeria
3. Kemi Okenyedo, Executive Director, Partners West Africa Nigeria
4. Gill Lever, Deputy High Commissioner, UK
Moderated by Angela Umoru-David.

The discussions reinforced the importance of strong institutions, strategic leadership, collaboration, accountability, and innovation in strengthening civic institutions and advancing democratic development across Africa.

Dr. Hussaini Abdu at :

"Gender-Based Violence is not random, it is rooted in systems of power.

Patriarchy operates through institutions, culture, and the expectations society places on men and women. GBV becomes one of the ways that system maintains control.

To confront GBV without confronting patriarchy is to treat symptoms while nurturing the disease.”

Ending violence requires more than reaction, it requires transforming the systems that sustain it.

In a deeply reflective presentation titled “Forty-45 Years After Bob Marley’s Death: What Hope for African Unity?”, Otive Igbuzor challenged Africans to rethink the continent’s journey toward unity, solidarity, and liberation.

Drawing from the life, music, and philosophy of Bob Marley, Dr. Igbuzor argued that the dream of African unity remains unfinished despite decades of political independence and Pan-African advocacy.

He highlighted the major barriers confronting the continent, including poor leadership, external influence, weak institutions, conflict, and fragmented national interests — while also pointing to signs of hope through youth movements, culture, regional cooperation, and growing Pan-African consciousness.

According to him, African unity must move beyond political rhetoric and become a practical project rooted in leadership, shared values, culture, education, and collective responsibility.

He further emphasized the critical role of young people, academia, and cultural platforms in sustaining the ideals of Pan-Africanism for future generations.

The presentation served not only as a tribute to Bob Marley’s enduring legacy, but also as a powerful call for Africans to reimagine unity in the 21st century.

“What made Bob Marley powerful was not just the music - it was the message.”

Prof. Chris Akani traces Marley’s Pan-African consciousness to the Rastafarian movement, the 12 tribes of Israel, and the enduring philosophy of liberation, identity, and African solidarity.

Today’s conversation at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education is not just about remembering Bob Marley.

It is about asking:
Why has Africa still not united?
