Dream Africa proudly honours Haben Girma, a pioneering disability rights advocate and the first Deafblind graduate of Harvard Law School.

Despite the challenges she faced, Haben transformed obstacles into opportunities, advocating for accessibility in education, technology, and workplaces. She continues to inspire the world by proving that disability is not a limitation, but a source of strength and innovation.

At Dream Africa, we stand with her vision of a world where accessibility is a fundamental right, not a privilege.

International Women's Day Message from Vitalis Lanshima, Executive Director, DREAM Africa

Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and boundless potential of women across Africa and the world. We honor the trailblazers, the barrier-breakers, and the voices of change—especially women with disabilities who continue to rise above challenges, proving that ability is not defined by physical limitations but by the power of determination and courage.

Women like Lois Auta, who has dedicated her life to advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities through the Cedar Seed Foundation, championing policies that foster inclusivity and empower women to lead. Lucy Ejike, whose unwavering commitment to powerlifting has seen her break records and win multiple Paralympic medals, proving that excellence knows no bounds. And Grace Alache Jerry, the CEO of Inclusive Friends Association, whose tireless advocacy has amplified the voices of persons with disabilities in governance and policy-making, ensuring that inclusion is not just a promise but a reality.

To every woman fighting for inclusion, equity, and justice—you are the heartbeat of progress. To the educators, athletes, advocates, and leaders redefining possibilities—you are the light that inspires generations. Your stories of triumph remind us that no obstacle is too great, no dream too far, and no voice too small to make an impact.

At DREAM Africa, we stand with you in the pursuit of a world where every woman, regardless of ability, is seen, heard, and empowered. Together, we must continue to dismantle barriers, champion accessibility, and foster a society where equity is not an aspiration but a reality.

Today, and every day, we celebrate YOU—the women shaping history and igniting the future. Keep breaking barriers. Keep dreaming. Keep shining.

Happy International Women's Day!

Dream Africa proudly celebrates the remarkable Yetnebersh Nigussie, a blind Ethiopian lawyer, human rights activist, and champion for disability inclusion. Her story is one of resilience, determination, and breaking barriers, proving that disability is not a limitation but a source of strength.

Despite losing her sight at a young age, Yetnebersh refused to be defined by her disability. Instead, she pursued education with unwavering dedication, becoming a lawyer, advocate, and global voice for women and persons with disabilities. Through her work with various organizations, she has fought for inclusive education, gender equality, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.

Yetnebersh’s leadership and advocacy have earned her international recognition, including the Right Livelihood Award, often referred to as the “Alternative Nobel Prize.” She continues to inspire women and girls with disabilities to dream big, embrace opportunities, and break through societal barriers.

Her journey reminds us that true empowerment begins when we create spaces where everyone regardless of ability can thrive, lead, and make a lasting impact.
