Our pupils had a beautiful time at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, celebrating International Literacy Day at an event organised by Rotary Abuja Renaissance.

For our children, it was more than an outing—it was an opportunity to experience the joy of books, participate in engaging activities, have fun, and discover that reading can open doors to worlds beyond their present circumstances.

Every child deserves the opportunity to read, learn, dream and become. 💚

August was a month of small steps creating BIG futures. 💚

From 100 sets of classroom furniture donated by Matured Like Minds, to our new building being beautifully painted by Matured Like Minds, the renovation of our older classrooms by ECWA EMS, and three of our pupils earning full scholarships to transition to secondary school through Soower Foundation we saw what becomes possible when people choose to invest in children.

We also participated in the Future-Ready Education Summit 2026, strengthening our commitment to ensuring displaced and vulnerable children are not left behind in the future of education.
Every desk matters.
Every classroom matters.
Every opportunity matters.
Every child matters.

DON'T TURN A MISTAKE INTO A SENTENCE
Someone made a mistake online.
People noticed.
People criticised it.
Fair.
But somewhere between the first correction and the hundredth repost, something changed.

The conversation stopped being about what happened and started becoming about who could punish the person most loudly.
A screenshot becomes a weapon.
A comment becomes an insult.
A disagreement becomes a pile-on.
Someone starts searching for private information.
Family members get dragged into a situation they did not create.
And suddenly, a mistake has become a hunt.

This is where I believe we need to pause.
Not because people should never be corrected.
Not because harmful behaviour should be ignored.
And certainly not because accountability doesn't matter.
It matters.
But accountability should answer:
“How do we address what went wrong?”
It should not become:
“How do we destroy the person who got it wrong?

There is a difference.
A very important one.
Because behind every viral screenshot is a human being who has to live after the internet moves on.
So before you add your voice to the next digital outrage, ask yourself:
Am I correcting the behaviour—or contributing to the harm?
If the person has already understood the lesson, what exactly are we still trying to punish?

DON'T TURN A MISTAKE INTO A SENTENCE.
Correct the behaviour.
Protect the dignity.
Know when to stop.
This is not a campaign against accountability.
It is a campaign for accountability without cruelty.

When a child is hungry, you cannot feed them with sympathy alone.

When a displaced child has lost years of learning, you cannot restore those years with a hashtag.

When a teacher is struggling to stay on the job, you cannot tell them to keep serving without support.

This is the reality behind humanitarian work.

It is messy.
It is demanding.
Sometimes, it is heartbreaking.

But it is also deeply human.

At Betharbel Foundation, I have learned that humanitarian action is not always about having enough resources. Sometimes, it is about starting with what you have and refusing to abandon the people who have been entrusted to your care.

We have seen children return to learning after disruption. We have watched graduates take their next steps into secondary school. We have created spaces where girls can learn, grow and imagine possibilities beyond their circumstances.

But the needs remain.

And that is why we keep showing up.

Today, on World Humanitarian Day, I celebrate every teacher, volunteer, donor, community worker and humanitarian who continues to serve even when the resources don't match the size of the need.

And I remind myself of the reason I began:

Empower Lives.
Unlock Dreams.
Rebuild Futures.

Because sometimes, humanitarianism begins with one simple decision:

“I will not look away.” 💚

SOME DAYS, YOU BREAK. BUT YOU STILL SHOW UP. 💚
Behind every organisation that looks strong from the outside is a human being who sometimes gets tired too.
There are days the weight feels unbearable.

Days when the needs seem endless, the resources seem insufficient, and the responsibility of carrying other people's dreams feels heavier than your own strength.

But then I look at the children.
I remember the classrooms we didn't have but built.
The meals we didn't know how we would provide but somehow served.
The children who came with interrupted dreams and are now learning, growing and believing again.

And I remember:
The vision still matters.
At Betharbel, we are not always strong.
But we keep showing up.
For the child who needs another chance.
For the girl discovering her voice.
For the learner preparing for a future beyond displacement.
For every dream that deserves an opportunity
We are tired sometimes.
We are stretched sometimes.
We even break sometimes.
But we don't give up.

Because sometimes, showing up is the victory.
To every teacher, volunteer, donor, parent, founder and changemaker who is carrying more than people know:
Take a breath.
Rest when you need to.
Ask for help.

Then, when you are ready
take the next step.
You don't have to carry tomorrow today.
Just keep showing up. ❤️
