What does democracy actually feel like when the system has never worked for you?
For millions of Nigerians, democracy is not an experience, it is a concept. One that lives in constitutional text but rarely shows up in everyday life.
And that gap is not accidental. It is the result of systems that were never designed to be fully inclusive of governance structures that function for some, while leaving others without legal protection, representation, or access to basic public services.
Human rights and good governance are not separate conversations. They are the same one. When people cannot participate meaningfully in decisions that affect them, when justice remains inaccessible, when marginalised communities stay unheard — democratic institutions weaken. Not loudly. Quietly, over time.
Strengthening democracy means closing that gap. Through inclusive policy, institutional reform, and a civil society that refuses to stop demanding accountability.
