Election & Propaganda.

Elections are not only won at the ballot box.
They are won long before, in the minds of the people.

"Propaganda is to a democracy what violence is to a dictatorship." - Noam Chomsky

Narratives are framed, fears are amplified, half-truths are recycled, and repetition slowly begins to feel like fact.

This is how perception is engineered.
This is how consent is manufactured.

Today, social media is the most powerful campaign tool ever created.
No gatekeepers.
Algorithms reward outrage.

As Nigeria inches toward another critical election cycle, timelines are already becoming battlegrounds.

Coordinated hashtags.
Anonymous pages.
Influencers-for-hire.
Old videos, new captions.
Lies dressed as patriotism.
Truth struggling to breathe.

This is not new, but the scale is unprecedented.

As citizens, professionals, and stakeholders, media literacy is no longer optional.
Pause.
Verify.
Ask who benefits from the narrative being pushed.

Because in the end, power is never given.

It is prepared for, through stories we choose to believe or reject.

Nigeria will decide.
But first, Nigeria must think.

A man who governed a state.
Who led a federal ministry.
Who shaped labor policies for Nigeria.

Yesterday, he stood in court facing fraud charges.
Today, he's in Kuje Prison.

Dr. Chris Ngige's story is one we've seen before.
And we'll see again.

Public service has two phases:

Phase 1:
The Service –
Power. Influence. Access. Budgets. Contracts.
Decisions that shape millions of lives.

Phase 2: The Reckoning – Investigations. Arraignments. Defense. Accountability.

The time between these phases?
That's the wilderness.

Some walk through it unscathed.
Their records speak for them.

Others spend it in courtrooms.
Their decisions speak against them.

Ngige is alleged to have awarded ₦366 million in contracts to his associate's company.
Another ₦583 million to a second associate.
Received ₦119.6 million in various gratifications.

He says he's innocent.
The courts will judge.

But the pattern is clear:
The positions we hold are temporary.
The records we create are permanent.

I've built in both worlds—entertainment and tech.

At Buzzy.ng, we handle transactions, partnerships, creator revenues.
Every decision we make leaves a trail.

So I ask myself daily:
"If this were examined under intense scrutiny, could it stand?"

If the answer is uncertain,
I don't proceed.

Because I've watched too many brilliant people,
people who actually did good work,
get entangled in "small" compromises that became big investigations.

The associate's company that gets the contract "just this once."
The gratification that's "just a gesture of appreciation."
The shortcut that "everyone does."

They all add up.
And one day,
someone counts.

For every leader reading this,
You're not just building a career.
You're creating evidence.
Evidence that will either defend you or indict you when your service ends.

Choose what story you want that evidence to tell.
The wilderness is real.

But you determine what you carry into it.
