Everyday we keep receiving reports of women who now have disabilities or are de.ad because of domestic viol.ence and ab.use. Many young girls are being sexu.ally abu.sed but live without getting the justice they deserve. Women experience all forms of humili.ation and abu.se from their husbands and family members and they di.e in silence because they lack the voice to protect themselves. Women are being che.ated in marriages and treated like second class citizens. Women leave marriages emptyhanded all because they did not secure their entitlements well enough in the course of the marriage and are at the mercy of their husbands. Women are treated in the most inhu.mane and de.grading way when they lose their husbands and are at the mercy of their husbands' family. They do not even know how to protect the property their husbands' left behind for the benefits of his children.
All these and more happen because women do not know their rights and even those that know their rights do not know how to claim their rights or where to go to to seek for justice. They don't even know what evidence they need to win the legal bat.tle or how to preserve their evidence for a long time.
In view of this and as a way of empowering women, NkyLaw in collaboration with Initiative for Women and Girls Right Advancement-IWOGRA will be hosting a 4 days intensive online short course on Women's Human Rights and Family Law in Nigeria from Monday, 25 November - Thursday, 28 November, 2024.
