As part of the ongoing efforts to support the implementation of the Nigeria State-level ART Impact Survey (AIS) in Lagos State, a five-day training was held from September 1st to 5th, 2025, to train satellite laboratorians on the use of the Laboratory Data Management System (LDMS) platform.

The training brought together representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), (National AIDS and STIs Control Programme (NASCP), National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC), Lagos State Ministry of Health (LSMOH)), CDC, and PHIA Fellows.

LDMS will serve as the primary data management platform, used across the satellite and central laboratories to support the survey’s laboratory data component. The platform will be used to report specimen information, plasma and DBS (Dried Blood Spot) storage locations, quality assurance, and confirmatory test results, as well as sample shipments. Data generated through LDMS will enable effective monitoring and tracking of all laboratory activities during the survey period.

This training marks another important step in preparing for the successful implementation of the ART Impact Survey in Lagos, ensuring accurate, high-quality laboratory data to inform decisions and strengthen Nigeria’s HIV response.

To ensure an efficient implementation of the Nigeria State-Level ART Impact Survey (AIS) 2025 in Lagos State, the AIS Non-Lab/Lab Material Adaptation Training was held from 11th to 15th August 2025.

The training aimed to equip representatives from the Government of Nigeria (GoN), the Lagos State Ministry of Health (LSMoH), and other stakeholders with the knowledge and skills required to facilitate the stepdown trainings, support survey implementation, and monitoring activities.

In attendance were representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) (National AIDS and STIs Control Programme, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Nigeria Centre for Disease Control), NMOD, LSMoH, CDC, and Nepwhan HQ. Technical sessions were facilitated by PHIS3 Subject matter Experts (SMEs).

The NASCP National Coordinator, Dr. Adebobola Bashorun, in his opening remarks, expressed gratitude to participants for their invaluable contributions. He emphasized that the purpose of the gathering was to share knowledge, build trainers’ capacity, and prepare them to effectively cascade the training. He further underscored the importance of teamwork and collaboration, encouraging participants to support one another throughout the survey process to ensure its success.

Participants received training on survey processes and procedures, ethics and confidentiality, informed consent, the data collection tools, and the survey's standard operating procedures (SOPs). This material adaptation training is an important milestone in getting facilitators and stakeholders ready for step-down training of field teams in Lagos State. By investing in people and processes it sets the stage for a successful survey that will provide valuable insights to strengthen the National HIV response.

PHIS3 FY25 Staff Retreat — Day 3 & 4 Highlights!
What do you get when you mix big ideas, team spirit, and a dash of childhood fun? Days 3 & 4 of our retreat — and they were absolutely epic!

Day 3 focused on program excellence, with impactful sessions on the use of AI and time management that got everyone thinking. But we didn’t stop there! We threw it back with childhood classics like tic-tac-toe, egg races, and the balloon toss challenge which had us laughing and bonding all over again.

Day 4 brought the energy with a sporty vibe and sharp discussions. We started with opening remarks from APIN Public Health Initiatives Ltd/Gte Deputy CEO (Operations), Mr. Niyi Olaofin, followed by powerful sessions on Ethics & Fraud Awareness by Mrs. Chinwe Onuoha, and a talk on ethical issues and disciplinary procedures by Mr. Luke Onu.
The team activities were just as engaging, from puzzles to Snakes and Ladders game, creativity was definitely in the air!

So far, this retreat has been the perfect mix of learning, laughter, and team bonding, and we loved every moment.
