What happens when public health experts, government institutions, implementing partners, and communities come together to examine the evidence?

The result? Better insights, stronger recommendations, and greater impact.

Stakeholders recently convened for the Stakeholders’ Review Workshop for the ART Impact Survey Akwa Ibom State (AISAKS) 2024 Technical Report, which is an important step towards ensuring that the survey’s findings are accurately captured and reflect the true implementation.

The workshop brought together representatives from FMoH (National AIDS and STIs Control Programme (NASCP), National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC), NMOD, Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health, NEPWHAN, USG (HAO, CDC), and APIN/PHIS3 to critically review the AISAKS findings and provide technical input into the final report.

As the technical implementing partner supporting AISAKS, APIN/PHIS3 project provided an overview of the survey’s methodology, implementation process, and key findings, setting the stage for meaningful technical discussions and constructive review.

From examining findings and identifying gaps to discussing programmatic implications, stakeholders worked collaboratively to strengthen the evidence and ensure it can answer a critical question:

How can we use what the data tells us to improve HIV programming and health outcomes in Akwa Ibom State?

For PHIS3, this is what evidence-to-impact looks like, bringing people, expertise, and data together to support smarter decisions and stronger health systems.

Day Two of the EKO Health Convention brought even more insightful conversations, strategic engagements, and opportunities to explore how innovation can transform healthcare delivery.

A major highlight was APIN/PHIS3’s strong presence in the digital health dialogue, with Mr. Gibril Gomez, PHIS3 Health Informatics Director, sharing insights on AI, telemedicine, digital data, and disease surveillance, and how these tools can support smarter, data-driven healthcare decisions.

Adding to the conversation, PHIS3 Technical Director, Dr. Olaposi Olatoregun, highlighted the importance of strengthening health systems through innovation, collaboration, and the effective use of health data, emphasizing how integrated digital solutions can improve service delivery and patient outcomes across all levels of care.

Our engagement at the exhibition booth also continued, connecting with stakeholders and showcasing the work PHIS3 project is doing to strengthen health information systems through technology, data, and strategic partnerships.

The ART Impact Survey Akwa Ibom (AISAKS 2024) AISAKS Summary Sheet Dissemination marked an important milestone in Akwa Ibom State's HIV response, bringing together government agencies (FMOH (NASCP, NACA, NCDC)), NMOD, AKWA Ibom Ministry of Health, Funding agency (USG), development partners, implementing partners, PLHIV community and Civil society organizations (CSOs) with one shared goal: using evidence to strengthen HIV programming and improve health outcomes.

The event officially launched the AISAKS 2024 Summary Sheet and provided an opportunity to share the latest insights into the HIV epidemic in Akwa Ibom State. More importantly, it reinforced the value of reliable data in guiding policies, planning effective interventions, and improving the delivery of HIV services.

In his opening remarks, the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Akwa Ibom State,Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, applauded the remarkable progress the state has made in its HIV response while emphasizing that there is still more work to be done. He reminded stakeholders that HIV is now a manageable chronic condition when diagnosed early and treated consistently, and called for an end to stigma and discrimination. He encouraged everyone to know their HIV status, access treatment where necessary, and remain on treatment to achieve better health outcomes.

The Commissioner also called for stronger collaboration and sustained support from development partners and stakeholders to build on the gains already achieved and accelerate progress toward ending the HIV epidemic in the state.

The public dissemination of the AISAKS 2024 Summary Sheet represents more than the release of survey findings; it reflects the power of partnership, evidence, and a shared commitment to making informed decisions that improve lives.
