Appearing live on News Central TV's Breakfast Xtra this morning, our Executive Director, Anthony Ubani, broke down the critical elements needed to deliver truly free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria. Addressing the deep-seated deficit of public trust, he emphasized that restoring citizen confidence requires complete institutional transparency from INEC—demanding clear visibility at every stage, from the moment a vote is cast at the polling unit to the final declaration of results.

He highlighted that while technological tools like BVAS and IReV enhance transparency, technology alone cannot change human behavior, curb violence, or fix compromised systems if actors lack integrity. Beyond electoral umpires, he made a compelling case for the role of political parties as the true gatekeepers of democracy. Because elections begin with internal party primaries, general election integrity cannot rise above the competence, character and capacity of the candidates parties present to the public.
