With over 50,000 people currently receiving life-saving HIV treatment across ten Nigerian states, and viral load suppression rates remaining above 95 percent, these outcomes highlight the scale of progress achieved under the Society for Family Health (SFH)-led CARE 2 Programme, as stakeholders intensify efforts to sustain gains through increased government ownership. The results reflect years of targeted investments in service delivery, community systems, and data-driven programming that have strengthened access to treatment and improved health outcomes across Bauchi and Sokoto States.

To consolidate these gains, SFH convened a three-day high-level engagement with government leaders, health stakeholders, and community partners to advance the transition from donor-supported HIV programmes to government-led systems. The engagement provided a platform for states to assess readiness, align priorities, and define practical steps to maintain treatment coverage, safeguard service quality, and ensure continuity of care. Discussions also emphasised the importance of preserving the strong community-based models that have driven uptake and retention in HIV services.

Key priorities identified at the meeting include integrating HIV services into primary healthcare systems, strengthening state financing and budget ex*****on, ensuring uninterrupted access to treatment and essential commodities, and transitioning critical human resources into government systems. Each state developed a context-specific transition pathway, reflecting varying levels of readiness and timelines for implementation. SFH reaffirmed its commitment to supporting governments through this transition, positioning the shift as a critical step towards a resilient, locally owned HIV response capable of sustaining impact and protecting the health of vulnerable populations.

We are pleased to announce that the Society for Family Health (SFH), one of Africa’s leading public health institutions, has transitioned into a Group structure, marking a significant shift from a traditional programme implementer to a fully integrated, African-led health systems platform. This comes at a critical moment as Nigeria and the continent advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC), strengthen domestic health financing, and navigate a changing global development landscape.

The new quasi Group structure brings together delivery, financing, markets, human capital, and advisory capabilities under one coordinated system. Through its portfolio which includes the Donor-Funded Directorate, SFH Access, RevoHealth HMO Ltd, the Institute of Public Health, and Advisory and Professional Services, SFH will deliver end-to-end health system solutions aligned with national and continental priorities.

Group CEO, Dr Omokhudu Idogho, described the transition as a deliberate pivot toward building a resilient, African institution capable of delivering impact at scale, while Board President, Professor Ekanem Braide, noted it reflects a bold, future-focused response to evolving development realities.

Aligned with Nigeria’s UHC agenda, primary healthcare strengthening, innovative financing, and private sector engagement, SFH is repositioning as a trusted partner delivering sustainable, scalable, and locally anchored impact.

From the pulpit to the people, faith leaders are shaping how communities understand HIV.
In this conversation, a religious leader shares why compassion, truth, and support matter more than stigma. Because faith should bring healing, not judgment. Let’s listen, learn, and stand together.

What role does government play in ending HIV stigma?
We spoke with a State Government representative to understand the commitment behind the response.
We believe that sustainable change happens when systems, communities, and people work together to ensure access, dignity, and care for all.

Society for Family Health (SFH) Group is participating in the 3rd edition of the Pharma West Africa Conference and Exhibition, from 14 to 16 April 2026 at the Landmark Centre.

The SFH delegation was led by Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Omokhudu Idogho, alongside the Managing Director of SFH Access, Pharm Dennis Aizobu. Their participation highlighted SFH’s commitment to strengthening pharmaceutical systems and expanding access to quality healthcare across West Africa.

The conference convened key stakeholders to address vulnerabilities in the region’s supply chain and explore pathways to self-sufficiency. In his remarks, Conference Chairman and SFH Board Member, Pharm Ahmed I. Yakasai, emphasised the need for courage, collaboration, and commitment to drive actionable solutions, particularly through innovation and digital transformation.

SFH contributed to the programme through both thought leadership and exhibition. Pharm Dennis Aizobu participated in a panel session on digital transformation, highlighting the role of e-pharmacy, medication delivery platforms, and teleconsultation in improving access, efficiency, and transparency in healthcare delivery.

At the exhibition, SFH showcased a range of its health products and interventions, engaging partners and demonstrating its market-based approach to improving health outcomes.

Discussions at the conference underscored the need to transition from donor-driven systems to domestically financed healthcare markets. Speakers highlighted that sustainable pharmaceutical systems depend on integrated financing across patients, providers, and manufacturers, rather than isolated interventions.

SFH’s participation reinforces its leadership in advancing innovative, sustainable solutions that improve access to essential medicines and strengthen health systems across the region.

Strengthening health systems has been said to not just be a goal but a pathway to saving lives by Society for Family Health (SFH), as over 320 Family Planning Service Providers and Medical Record Officers, MROs, from 160 Health Facilities of Taraba state have been trained.

Family planning remains a critical intervention in reducing maternal mortality and morbidity. Following a co-creation workshop by SFH early in the year, key findings from a state assessment were disseminated, and one gap stood out clearly: the need to bridge knowledge gaps in service delivery.

In response, and in alignment with the SWAp approach to health system strengthening, Society for Family Health partnered with the Taraba State Primary Healthcare Agency to take this action.

A total of 320 healthcare providers across 160 facilities in all 16 LGAs were equipped with skills in Empathy-based counselling and counselling for choice. This was a training aimed at transforming how care is delivered.

By ensuring clients receive the right information in a supportive and respectful environment, we empower women to make informed decisions about their reproductive health promoting autonomy, dignity, and improved self-care.
