The Lift for Citizens Development and Advancement (LICDA) through it's Vitiligo Awareness and Support Project is carrying out a Myth-Busting Campaign to promote understanding, challenge harmful misconceptions, and encourage inclusion.

Across many communities, people living with vitiligo continue to face stigma, discrimination, social exclusion, and emotional distress because of myths that have no scientific basis.

Through this campaign, we will share facts, debunk common myths, and discuss how each of us can contribute to a more inclusive society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Together, we can replace fear with knowledge and stigma with compassion.

Follow this campaign, share these messages, and help us build a society where differences are respected rather than feared.

Today, on World Vitiligo Day, we stand in solidarity with millions of people living with vitiligo around the world.

Vitiligo is not contagious. It is not a curse. It is not something to fear.

Yet many people living with vitiligo face stigma, discrimination, exclusion, and harmful misconceptions that affect their confidence, opportunities, and wellbeing.

At LICDA, we believe that every person deserves dignity, respect, and equal treatment regardless of their appearance. Building inclusive communities begins with understanding, empathy, and acceptance.

Let us replace myths with facts, prejudice with compassion, and exclusion with belonging.

Together, we can create a society where differences are celebrated, not stigmatized.

A young person's hairstyle is not evidence of a crime.

Their outfit is not proof of wrongdoing.

Owning a laptop is not a sign of fraud.

Driving a nice car does not automatically make them a suspect.

Today, many young people earn legitimate incomes through technology, digital entrepreneurship, freelancing, software development, content creation, online consulting, e-commerce, digital marketing, and other internet-based opportunities. The digital economy has created pathways for innovation and wealth creation that did not exist a generation ago.

Unfortunately, stereotypes continue to shape perceptions and interactions with young people. When assumptions replace facts, trust is weakened, opportunities are lost, and innocent individuals may be unfairly targeted.

Effective law enforcement is essential for public safety. However, enforcement must be intelligence-driven, evidence-based, and carried out in accordance with established professional standards and the rule of law. Suspicion should be based on credible evidence, not appearance, age, lifestyle, or possession of technology.

Building safer communities requires trust between citizens and law enforcement. Young people are not just beneficiaries of that trust they are critical partners in creating it.

Let's move from profiling to professionalism, from assumptions to evidence, and from suspicion to meaningful engagement.

Every young person deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect until proven otherwise.

LICDA continues to work to ensure that trust is built between the Youths and Law Enforcement Agents using the Know the Law, Use the Law and Shape the Society approach.

Real and sustainable change begins with the people.

LICDA’s community sensitization session placed citizens at the heart of the conversation by amplifying their voices, addressing their concerns, and strengthening their role in building safer and more secure communities.

With the support and collaboration of the traditional leader of the Damangaza Community in the FCT, community members were effectively mobilized and fostered meaningful engagement.

By leveraging the influence and credibility of traditional leadership, the initiative went beyond simply reaching community members. It created an enabling environment where citizens actively participated and shared their experiences. The session became a platform for genuine conversations, mutual understanding, and collective problem-solving.

Keeping citizens informed, engaged, and heard is essential to building trust, promoting accountability, and strengthening community-driven approaches to safety, governance, and development.

Today, on International Day of the Boy Child, LICDA celebrates every boy and reaffirms the need to raise boys who are protected, emotionally healthy, responsible, and empowered.

This year’s theme reminds us that boys also need safe spaces, guidance, mentorship, and opportunities to thrive. At LICDA, our work on human rights, youth engagement, and community dialogue helps young boys understand their rights, build positive values, and grow into responsible leaders and peacebuilders.

We believe that investing in the boy child is essential to building safer and stronger communities for all.

From learning to leading 💡

One of our trained paralegals at LICDA is already putting knowledge into action by facilitating a sensitization session with members of the Catholic Youths Association of Nigeria, St. Matthew Catholic Church Karmo, Abuja on fundamental human rights and civic responsibilities.

This engagement reflects our Train-the-Trainer approach, where young people (paralegals) move beyond learning to actively share the knowledge gained within their communities. By breaking down key rights and responsibilities, the session is helping young people better understand their rights and role in promoting justice, accountability, and active citizenship.
