A Tribute to Rear Admiral Idi Abbas
Newly Appointed Chief of Naval Staff, Nigerian Navy
There are men who serve, and there are men who embody service. Rear Admiral Idi Abbas stands among the few whose patriotism is not merely spoken, but lived daily with fine discipline, intellectual depth, and an unwavering commitment to the values that keep our nation standing tall.
He is a fine officer ; patriotic, intentional, intellectually sound, responsible, and free-spirited. Though he may not always reflect the softness of kindness in his demeanor, his actions consistently reveal a deep, humane spirit that insists everyone — irrespective of tribe, religion, civilian, or military status must be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect.
Our encounter with him was during his time as Chief of Defence, Civil-Military Relations, Defence Headquarters - a period that tested our resolve at the Tribute to Our Troops Charity Foundation (TTOT). He not only stood by us but also bore the burden of ensuring our challenges were addressed and our debts cleared, without seeking any form of compensation, favour, or recognition. His only demand was simple and powerful: “Get the job done.”
A rare man, often misunderstood by those who only see his firmness but not the depth of his heart. A man of few words ; yet with a heart larger than many could ever imagine. My team and I experienced his leadership firsthand - a blend of strength and compassion, discipline and understanding - a form of tough love that is sorely needed in today’s Nigeria if we are to rebuild our image and national pride.
Sir, as you ascend to this new mantle of service as the Chief of Naval Staff, we have no doubt that both the Nigerian Navy and our great nation will experience exceptional leadership under your watch.
Congratulations once again, Sir.
May your tenure be marked by courage, excellence, and the continued pursuit of a stronger, prouder Nigeria.
