FHCI is helping to strengthen malaria control systems in Kogi State.💪🏽🦟

In collaboration with the Kogi State Malaria Elimination Programme, Famkris Healthcare Initiative (FHCI) provided technical and logistics support for Integrated Monitoring and Supportive Visits (IMSV) across 72 health facilities in 9 LGAs between 6-9 May, 2026.

From reviewing malaria case management practices and validating health data, to mentoring health workers and monitoring malaria commodity stocks, the exercise reinforced quality healthcare delivery where it matters most.

Every accurate diagnosis, every verified report, and every strengthened health facility brings us closer to a malaria-free Kogi State.

Strong malaria programmes begin with high performing health facilities.

From 12–15 May 2026, Famkris Healthcare Initiative (FHCI) worked with the FCT-Malaria Elimination Programme, Public Health Department, HSES, FCTA & Area Council Monitoring & Evaluation teams to strengthen malaria prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and reporting across priority health facilities.

Using data-driven insights, facilities with high malaria test positivity rate, documentation gaps, and data inconsistencies received targeted support through supportive supervision, real-time mentoring, and routine data verification.

The exercise strengthened adherence to national malaria guidelines and improved the quality of care delivered to communities.

Every strengthened facility brings us one step closer to a malaria-free Nigeria.💪🏽🦟

Accurate data is critical to winning the fight against malaria.

On May 4-5 in Kogi State and May 7-8 in the FCT, Famkris Healthcare Initiative (FHCI), alongside the State Malaria Elimination Programmes, held Monthly Data Validation Meetings under the Support to Malaria Elimination Project (SMEP) funded by the Islamic Development Bank-Lives and Livelihood Fund.

The focus:
• Verify health facility data
• Close critical data gaps
• Address non-compliance and strengthen accountability

Why does this matter? Every accurate data point helps ensure medicines reach the right communities, resources are used effectively, and malaria interventions deliver real impact where they are needed most.

Strong data systems drive strong health outcomes and bring Nigeria closer to a malaria-free future.

On April 23, 2026, Famkris Healthcare Initiative, in partnership with the Kogi State Malaria Elimination Programme, held town hall meetings across Kabba, Olamaboro, and Ijumu LGAs of Kogi State.

The meetings aimed to:
✅Gather community feedback on malaria prevention and treatment services.
✅Identify barriers to access and uptake of free malaria services.
✅Strengthen Grievance Redress Mechanism awareness and reporting.
✅Document stakeholder recommendations for improvement of the Support to Malaria Elimination Project (SMEP) implementation.

These conversations are critical to building and sustaining community ownership of malaria elimination efforts across the state. In attendance were traditional and religious leaders, ward development committee members, community stakeholders, and health workers committed to a healthier future for their communities.

We know that when communities take ownership of initiatives, they are more likely to support, protect, and sustain them long after implementation.

Elimination of malaria is everyone’s responsibility, and every voice, every household, and every community effort matters in this fight. Together, we can create a malaria-free Kogi State.

On April 8, 2026, Famkris Healthcare Initiative in alignment with the efforts of the Nigeria National Malaria Elimination Programme held a refresher training for 14 Environmental Health Officers from all the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the FCT-Malaria Elimination Programme, Public Health Department, HSES, FCTA, to strengthen monitoring and compliance with national Healthcare Waste Management (HCWM) guidelines.
The session sharpened their knowledge, boosted capacity, and reinforced accountability. Every step toward safer waste management is a step toward a healthier FCT and a malaria-free future.

Your voice matters in the fight against malaria.

From April 29–30, 2026 Famkris Healthcare Initiative trained Grievance Redress Committee members across all 6 Area Councils in the FCT, strengthening their ability to listen, respond, and act on community concerns.
Participants were equipped to:
•Understand and apply the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM)
•Handle complaints around service delivery, beneficiary selection, and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Sexual Harassment issues
•Properly document, track, and resolve cases with confidentiality and fairness
Because eliminating malaria isn’t just about interventions, it’s about accountability, trust, and community ownership.

The FCT successfully flagged off the 2026 World Malaria Day, and the message was clear: Now we can. Now we must.
From markets and communities to the media and national TV, the push remained consistent – test before treatment, sleep under insecticide-treated nets, and avoid self-medication. These efforts are already yielding results, with malaria prevalence in the FCT dropping to 7.9% (from 18.8%, Malaria Indicator Survey 2021).
At the flag-off ceremony in Gwarimpa, Famkris Healthcare Initiative and partners came together to reinforce a shared goal: accelerate progress toward a malaria-free FCT. With stronger community action and sustained collaboration, we are getting closer.
