Malaria prevention starts with a conversation.đź’š

Across the FCT and Kogi State, Famkris Healthcare Initiative’s Community Mobilisers are taking that conversation directly to the people.

From homes and schools to markets and religious institutions, they are helping communities understand how to prevent malaria, encouraging early testing and treatment, and connecting people to free malaria services and commodities at FHCI-supported health facilities.

âś…They are creating awareness.
âś…They are creating demand.
âś…They are connecting communities to care.

And with every conversation, referral and community reached, we are moving one step closer to a malaria-free Nigeria. 🦟🚫

One community at a time. One conversation at a time.

Malaria medicines save lives, but only when they reach the people who need them most.

That's why between 20 July and 10 August 2026, Famkris Healthcare Initiative (FHCI), with support from the Nigeria National Malaria Elimination Programme, delivered FREE malaria commodities to supported health facilities across the FCT and Kogi State.

The supplies included:
âś… Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test (mRDT) kits
âś… ACTs for uncomplicated malaria
âś… Injectable Artesunate for severe malaria
âś… Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine (SP) for pregnant women

These life-saving commodities are provided free of charge at supported public health facilities, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to quality malaria care.

From urban communities to the hardest-to-reach areas, we're strengthening access to diagnosis, prevention and treatment because every life matters.
Together, we're moving closer to a malaria-free Nigeria.

Every malaria patient deserves the right diagnosis and the right treatment.

Famkris Healthcare Initiative, in collaboration with the FCT-Malaria Elimination Programme, Public Health Department, HSES, FCTA, engaged healthcare workers during clinical meetings at Kubwa General Hospital and Maitama District Hospital on 30–31 July 2026 to reinforce adherence to the National Guidelines for Malaria Diagnosis and Treatment.

Healthcare professionals were reminded to:
âś… Test before treatment.
âś… Avoid clinical diagnosis without confirmation.
âś… Prescribe only recommended Artemesinin-based Combination Therapies (ACTs) for uncomplicated malaria.
âś… Use Injectable Artesunate for severe malaria.
âś… Ensure accurate data recording and reporting to improve health decisions.

The sessions also clarified concerns about drug resistance, helping participants distinguish treatment failure from confirmed drug resistance.

Participants left with renewed confidence and practical knowledge to improve malaria diagnosis, treatment, and reporting.

Together, we're strengthening health systems and moving closer to a malaria-free FCT, one healthcare worker, one facility, and one patient at a time.

Better data leads to better decisions.

From July 13–17, 2026, Famkris Healthcare Initiative supported the Kogi State Malaria Elimination Programme with logistics and technical expertise to conduct a Data Quality Assessment across 70 public health facilities.

By assessing the quality of malaria programme data, we are strengthening the accuracy and reliability of health information for better planning, better services, and better health outcomes.

Every visit to a health facility is an opportunity to improve malaria care.

From July 15–17, Famkris Healthcare Initiative supported the FCT-Malaria Elimination Programme, Public Health Department, HSES, FCTA to monitor health facilities across the FCT, helping strengthen malaria diagnosis, treatment, data quality, commodity management, and on-the-job mentoring for healthcare workers.

These routine visits may happen behind the scenes, but they play a vital role in ensuring people receive quality malaria services whenever they visit a health facility.

Together, we're building stronger health systems and moving closer to a malaria-free FCT.

Accurate diagnosis and treatment save lives.

That's why Famkris Healthcare Initiative, alongside the FCT-Malaria Elimination Programme, Public Health Department, HSES, FCTA , joined the routine clinical meetings at Karshi General Hospital (July 14) and Gwarinpa General Hospital (July 15) to engage frontline healthcare workers on strengthening malaria case management.

From reinforcing the use of mRDTs and microscopy to discussing national treatment guidelines, pharmacovigilance, and quality data reporting, every conversation was focused on one goal: delivering better care for every patient.

Malaria elimination doesn't happen by chance, it happens one accurate diagnosis, one quality treatment, and one informed healthcare worker at a time.

đź’š Together, we're building a healthier, malaria-free FCT.

Delivering malaria health products is only half the job. Ensuring these products are properly managed is what keeps healthcare facilities ready to save lives.

That's why, alongside the distribution of malaria commodities to primary healthcare facilities, Famkris Healthcare Initiative has invested in strengthening the capacity of Malaria Focal Persons in the FCT to manage these essential supplies accurately and efficiently.

Participants received practical training on completing key logistics management tools, including:
✔️ Daily Consumption Registers
✔️ Bi-monthly Facility Stock Reports
✔️ Stock Cards
✔️ Issue, Return and Transfer Forms
✔️ Monthly Stock Count Forms

The trainings also equipped participants with the skills to submit their bi-monthly facility reports on the National Health Logistics Management Information System (NHLMIS) platform, improving the quality, timeliness and visibility of malaria commodity data.

Strong logistics systems mean fewer stock-outs, better planning, greater accountability and uninterrupted access to life-saving malaria medicines and diagnostic tools for the communities that need them most.

Eliminating malaria isn't just about getting commodities to health facilities, it's about ensuring every commodity is tracked, accounted for and available when a patient walks through the door.

Ending malaria starts with a conversation.

What happens when traditional rulers, religious leaders, women and youth leaders, healthcare workers, and community volunteers gather around the same table with one shared goal?

Ideas are exchanged, concerns are addressed, and communities become active partners in change.

In June 2026, Famkris Healthcare Initiative, through the Islamic Development Bank Group - isdb.org Lives and Livelihoods Fund's Support to Malaria Elimination Project (SMEP), convened strategic Townhall Meetings across Kogi, Dekina, Adavi, Ofu, and Ajaokuta LGAs to listen, learn, and strengthen community ownership of malaria elimination efforts.

Stakeholders spoke openly about the challenges affecting project implementation, from coordination gaps to concerns about health facility selection and access to free malaria treatment. Every concern was heard, misconceptions were addressed, practical solutions were agreed upon, and commitments were made to work more closely together.

The result?
🤝Stronger collaboration between health facilities, Community Mobilisers, Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) Committees, and community leaders.
📢Better understanding of malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
đź’šGreater community trust and support for the intervention.
🌍A renewed commitment to making malaria elimination everyone's responsibility.

Malaria can only be defeated when communities are informed, engaged, and empowered to lead the charge. Together, we're building healthier communities, one conversation at a time.
