Ideal Africa Foundation (IAF) sues the Nigerian Army, challenging their illegal presence at the Banex Plaza.
In the suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/716/2024 filed today, the 27th May, 2024, IAF posited that the Nigerian Army lack the requisite power to arrest and investigate an alleged crime committed at the Banex Plaza. IAF asked the Federal High Court to determine whether or not the Nigerian Army has the power to arrest and investigate a criminal matter in Nigeria, hence the prayer for immediate vacation of the Nigerian Army from Banex Plaza, Abuja and a perpetual injunction restraining the Nigerian Army from stationing their men at the Banex Plaza, amongst other reliefs.
IAF further prayed the Court to direct the Nigerian Police Force to take over the full investigation of the alleged assault

The Nigeria Correctional Service says no fewer than 53,836 inmates in the correctional centres are awaiting trial as of December 18, 2023. In line with our goals, we provide probono legal services and capacity development to correctional officers and lawyers to aid access to justice in Nigeria.
While we continue ensuring access to justice in 2024, we wish you a fruitful year ahead.
