By upholding this authority, the Court recognizes that situations may arise in which a state faces severe breakdowns of law and order—such as widespread violence, insurrection, or institutional collapse—that could escalate into chaos or anarchy if left unchecked. In such moments, swift and decisive executive action may be necessary to protect lives, property, and the integrity of democratic institutions.

Importantly, the Supreme Court’s position also reinforces the principle that the declaration of a state of emergency is not a suspension of the Constitution, but a constitutional response to extraordinary danger. The President’s powers during an emergency are meant to restore order and normalcy, not to entrench authoritarian control. BREAKING NEWS: Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet Crashes in Niger State — Pilots Survive

A Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet was involved in a crash on Saturday, December 6, 2025, near Karabonde in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The aircraft reportedly went down shortly after take-off from the Kainji Air Force Base during a post-inspection functional check flight.

According to eyewitnesses, the jet developed a sudden technical fault mid-air, releasing smoke before descending rapidly. The pilots, displaying remarkable skill and composure, steered the aircraft away from residential areas to avoid civilian casualties.

Pilots Eject Safely — No Lives Lost
Both pilots successfully ejected from the aircraft and survived the impact. They are currently undergoing medical evaluation and are said to be in stable condition. The Nigerian Air Force has commended their courage and professionalism in managing the emergency.

NAF Opens Investigation
The Air Force has launched a Board of Inquiry to determine the exact cause of the crash. Authorities say additional details will be provided after the investigation is concluded.

Enugu State Turns to Drones and AI in Bold Push Against Insecurity.

The Enugu State Government has stepped up efforts to confront rising insecurity by deploying surveillance drones and investing in a modern, AI-supported command system that officials say will transform how threats are detected and handled across the state.

In recent months, the government unveiled a new set of long-range security drones designed to give authorities an aerial advantage in monitoring remote communities, forests and major highways. Each drone is capable of covering vast distances from a single launch point, providing live video feeds that help security agencies track movements and respond faster to emergencies.

Officials say the technology is already reshaping how the state anticipates and manages risks. With real-time footage streamed directly into a central command centre, analysts can observe patterns, identify unusual activity and dispatch security teams long before incidents escalate. The state believes this shift—from after-the-fact responses to continuous, intelligence-driven surveillance—will close gaps exploited by kidnappers, armed groups and criminal networks.

The Nigerian Navy has taken a remarkable technological lead in Africa by becoming the only naval force on the continent currently deploying operational Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs). This milestone reflects Nigeria’s growing commitment to maritime innovation, modern warfare systems, and advanced surveillance technologies aimed at strengthening national and regional security.

In 2024, the Navy expanded its fleet with the acquisition of two sophisticated variants of the Swift Sea USV series:

S-3 SwiftSea Stalker

S-2 SwiftSea Striker

These high-tech platforms combine autonomous navigation, real-time surveillance, precision targeting, and enhanced maritime domain awareness. Their deployment is especially strategic for security operations in the Lake Chad Basin, a region challenged by terrorism, piracy, smuggling, and cross-border threats.
