JDPCI Abuja Selected as an Implementing Partner for the Tech4Youth Initiative

The Justice, Development and Peace Caritas Initiative (JDPCI Abuja) proudly participated in the high-level Tech4Youth Stakeholders Engagement and Joint Action Plan Development Session, convened by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and GIZ Digital Transformation Center (DTC) Nigeria.

The Tech4Youth initiative is jointly funded by Denmark's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The initiative adopts a systems-level approach to equip young Nigerians, especially those from underserved and marginalized communities (Women, Youths and Persons with Disabilities), with labour market-relevant digital and ICT skills while strengthening the institutions and ecosystems that support sustainable youth employment.

The stakeholder engagement brought together key actors from government ministries, development partners, the private sector, academia, civil society organizations, innovation hubs, and youth-focused institutions to jointly shape a coordinated and sustainable framework for digital skills development and inclusive employment.

In recognition of its longstanding commitment to youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and skills development, JDPCI Abuja was overwhelmingly nominated and selected as one of the implementing partners for the Tech4Youth ICT Skills Initiative, alongside key government institutions including the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

This recognition affirms JDPCI Abuja's growing reputation as a trusted development partner with proven expertise in delivering inclusive digital skills programmes, particularly for women, persons with disabilities, vulnerable youths, and underserved communities.

Yesterday, 28th July 2026, JDPC Abuja, with funding support from CAFOD, officially flagged off the planting of 5,000 economic trees across communities in Kuje Area Council, FCT Abuja, as part of our commitment to environmental restoration, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.

The Executive Director of JDPC, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Sanni, PhD, together with the Dean of Lugbe Deanery, Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Ilimi, who represented the Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Dr. Ignatius A. Kaigama, formally presented tree seedlings to community heads and members for immediate planting.

This initiative goes beyond tree planting. It is a deliberate investment in the future, promoting environmental conservation, strengthening household livelihoods through economic trees such as mango, orange, and cashew, restoring degraded landscapes, and empowering communities to become active custodians of God's creation.

Every tree planted today is a legacy of hope for generations to come.

Today, 25th July 2026, the Justice, Development and Peace Caritas Initiative (JDPCI) Abuja officially launched its Leadership Training Academy with a highly impactful training programme at St. Donald's Catholic Church, Karu.

Over 130 parish leaders participated in the maiden edition, where they were equipped with practical knowledge and skills to strengthen leadership effectiveness within their parish community.

The training covered key areas including:

* Leadership Roles, Responsibilities and Boundaries
* Conflict Management and Resolution
* Effective Communication for Enhanced Leadership
* Servant Leadership
* Team Building
* Succession Planning

The sessions were expertly facilitated by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Sanni, PhD, Executive Director of JDPCI Abuja, and Mr. Timothy Ejeh, Programmes Director, their wealth of experience inspired rich discussions and practical learning.

Today, the Community RISE Consortium, comprising JDPCI Abuja (Lead Organization), CWSI, Big Family 360, and YASIF, with funding support from CAFOD, successfully conducted an intensive Baseline Assessment and Community Resource Mapping Exercise across four communities in Kuje Area Council, FCT, Namely:

📍 Sundaba
📍 Chikuku

During the engagement, the Project Director, Mr. Timothy Ejeh, led the conversation with the community leaders and members, introducing the Community RISE Project, highlighting its objectives and the wide range of activities designed to strengthen community resilience, promote sustainable livelihoods, and support inclusive development. The community leaders expressed great enthusiasm and welcomed the initiative with optimism.

The baseline assessment and community resource mapping provided a valuable opportunity to identify existing community assets, local capacities, opportunities, and priority needs that will inform evidence-based project implementation. Community members noted that the exercise opened their eyes to the abundance of resources already available within their communities and inspired discussions on how these assets can be better utilized for sustainable development.

The Chief and members of all four communities conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to CAFOD for the timely support and intervention, while reaffirming their commitment to actively participate in the successful implementation of the project.

JDPCI Abuja Strengthens Partnership on the Protection of Human Rights Defenders in Nigeria

The Justice, Development and Peace Caritas Initiative (JDPCI Abuja) today hosted a high-level delegation from Front Line Defenders, Dublin, Ireland, and Partnership for Justice at its Abuja office for a strategic engagement focused on strengthening the protection and support of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) in Nigeria.

The delegation was warmly received by the Executive Director of JDPCI Abuja, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Sanni, PhD, who welcomed the opportunity to deepen collaboration with organizations committed to advancing human rights, justice, and the protection of civic space.

During the meeting, the Programmes Director of JDPCI Abuja, Timothy Ejeh, delivered a presentation highlighting the organization's extensive work in promoting human rights, peacebuilding, social justice, democratic governance, climate action, and the protection of vulnerable and marginalized populations across Nigeria, especially Persons with Disabilities. He also outlined the unique challenges faced by faith-based Human Rights Defenders, including shrinking civic space, security risks, resource constraints, and increasing threats encountered while defending the rights and dignity of communities.

The discussions provided an important platform for experience sharing, mutual learning, and exploring practical strategies to enhance the safety, resilience, and effectiveness of Human Rights Defenders, particularly faith-based organizations working on the frontlines of social justice and humanitarian response.

Promoting Democratic Participation Through Continuous Voter Registration

Over the course of the week; on 8th, 10th, and today, Sunday, 12th July 2026, the Justice, Development and Peace Caritas Initiative (JDPC Abuja), in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), successfully conducted the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) Exercise across strategic locations within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The exercise received an overwhelming response from Nigerian citizens, who turned out in large numbers to register as new voters, transfer their voting locations, and replace lost, damaged, or defaced Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The impressive turnout reflects the growing commitment of citizens to actively participate in Nigeria's democratic process.

At JDPC Abuja, we are delighted to contribute to the promotion of good governance, democratic accountability, and active citizenship. We believe that encouraging eligible citizens to exercise their civic responsibility is not only a democratic duty but also a moral imperative that strengthens our nation.

Over the past two days, 29th and 30th June 2026, JDPCI Abuja successfully launched two significant climate-focused initiatives: "Community Resilience for Inclusive and Sustainable Environments" (Community RISE) Project and the "Strengthening Inclusive Climate Action through Eco-friendly Briquette Project", both made possible through the generous funding support of CAFOD.

The Community RISE Project is being implemented through a consortium of four partners (CWSI, YASIF and Big Family 360), ably led by JDPCI Abuja. The project seeks to reduce climate vulnerability and strengthen the resilience of peri-urban and urban households across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Working closely with project participants and stakeholders, we are committed to achieving two key outcomes:
✅ Strengthened diversified and climate-smart livelihoods.
✅ Enhanced community resilience to climate-related shocks and stresses.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the project is its inclusive approach. Women, men, youth, and persons with disabilities are actively engaged and empowered to participate meaningfully in building resilient and sustainable communities.

As we embark on this important journey, we remain deeply grateful to CAFOD for its strategic, timely, and unwavering support. Together, we are creating pathways for inclusive climate action, sustainable livelihoods, and stronger communities.

JDPC Abuja actively participated in a five-day capacity-building training organized by CBM on the implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, held from 22nd to 26th June 2026.

The intensive training brought together stakeholders committed to advancing disability inclusion and strengthening the implementation of disability rights in Nigeria. Throughout the programme, participants engaged in practical discussions, knowledge sharing, and strategic planning aimed at promoting the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.

Key topics covered during the training included:

• Understanding the Evolving Concept of Disability
• Understanding the Nigeria Disability Law: Alignment with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
• Accessibility, Reasonable Accommodation, and Universal Design
• Intersectionality, Disability, and Gender
• Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR)
• Disability-Inclusive Budgeting and Policy Integration
• Legislative Oversight, Accountability, and Compliance Monitoring
• Social Accountability Monitoring and Developing Shadow Reports

The training further strengthened JDPC Abuja's commitment to promoting inclusive development, advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of sustainable development and social justice.

Earlier today, we had the pleasure of hosting a team of professionals from GIZ Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE II) and the DTC Unit at our office and training center. The team toured our facilities and expressed satisfaction with the various activities, programmes, and interventions being implemented by JDPCI to support vulnerable populations.

At JDPCI, we remain committed to building strong partnerships with credible organizations that share our vision of promoting human dignity, empowerment, and sustainable development. Collaborations such as this provide valuable opportunities to expand our reach and enhance the impact of our interventions.
