In parts of Africa, military takeovers have sometimes been met not only with concern but also with public support.

Why?

The deeper issue may be less about an attraction to military rule and more about declining trust in civilian institutions, persistent insecurity, weak public services, and frustration with political systems that citizens feel no longer represent them.

Our recent article examines what the continent’s recent coup wave may be telling us about leadership, democracy, accountability, and the expectations of a younger generation.

The question may not be simply whether Africans want democracy — but whether they feel they are experiencing the real thing.

It is easy to feel powerless when the headlines are filled with conflict, division, uncertainty, and loss. But peace rarely begins with something dramatic.

Sometimes, it begins when we listen before judging. When we choose respect over hostility. When we help a neighbour, strengthen a family, or create space for dialogue.

These may seem small, but they shape the kind of we live in.

So today, the question is simple: what is one act of peace you can choose where you are?

By creating space for diverse perspectives to meet with mutual respect and shared purpose, differences can become a source of understanding rather than division.
