Cybersecurity Education Initiative - CYSED is honored to share our official statement delivered by our Co-Founder, OLUWATOBI AYODELE, on behalf of our organization at the historic United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime Signing Ceremony & High-level Conference.

To be invited to speak at the main plenary was a profound opportunity to bring the voice of African youth and frontline civil society to the highest levels of global policy.

Our message was clear, targeted, and grounded in our on-the-ground experience.
We highlighted three core principles:

PREVENTION over Prosecution: The Hanoi Convention's greatest power lies not just in arrests, but in its mandate for prevention under Chapter VI (Article 53).

PARTNERSHIP over Tokenism: We called on Member States to move beyond seeing youth as a "vulnerable group" and to empower them as "essential partners" in co-creating and implementing policy, as envisioned in Article 53, Paragraph 2.

RESILIENCE over Reaction: We stressed that the most effective way to fight organized cybercrime is to stop the recruitment of youth by investing in mandatory digital literacy and cyber-ethics education.

This is a historic moment for youth-led advocacy. It is a powerful validation that the grassroots work we do every day, the training, the advocacy, the resilience-building are essential to the global fight against cybercrime.

A profound thank you to the UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam for making this inclusive event a reality.

CYSED is more committed than ever to our mission: to be a bridge between global policy and local action. The real work of implementing this Convention starts now.

We had the privilege of attending the recently concluded National Cybercrime Summit at the State House in Abuja, organized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission

The theme of the event closely aligns with our mission to prevent cybercrime among young people.

It was encouraging to see the efforts of government agencies in the fight against cybercrime, particularly the unveiling of the Cybercrime Rapid Response Service by the commission.

We are incredibly proud to announce that one of our Youth Empowerment Against Cybercrime (YEmAC) beneficiaries has been recognized as one of the Teens Making Impactful Contributions to Technology and Cybersecurity by the Nigeria Teen Cyber Festival (ngTeenCyberFest) 2024!

From a past deeply influenced by cybercrime, she has completely turned her life around to become a champion of cybersecurity awareness in Nigeria. Now leading programs aimed at steering young people away from the dangerous path of cybercrime, her journey serves as a true testament to the power of education, resilience, and second chances.

At CYSED, we believe in the potential of every individual to make positive changes, and we are inspired by her dedication to transforming her past into a future full of hope, impact, and empowerment for others.

All thanks to the UK in Nigeria and TAG International for supporting the project and to the cybersecurity track mentor Omolara Esther Hamzat for impacting our students.

Cyberbullying is an intentional and repeated act of harm inflicted through online means. It can happen on social media, over email, phone calls, texts, or even in gaming platforms. Words have power—let's use them to build each other up, not tear each other down. Behind every screen is a real person with real emotions. No one deserves to feel worthless or isolated because of someone else's actions.

Engaging in cyberbullying is not only hurtful but also punishable under law in many countries. What may seem like a joke or a passing comment could have serious legal consequences.

We all have a role to play in creating a safer and more respectful online space. Be the reason someone feels valued, not broken.

The gender digital divide continues to exist.

In January 2024, World Bank reported that women in Nigeria have 37% less access to the Internet than men, despite an increase in Internet usage in the country.

There are significant opportunities for economic growth if women can be empowered to utilize digital technology to enhance their businesses. We are committed to making this possible by empowering women in underserved communities with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the digital age.

⚠️ Beware of Fake Job Offers!⚠️

Not all job opportunities are what they seem.

Scammers often disguise themselves as employers to steal your personal info or money.

Stay alert and protect yourself by:
- Verifying company details
- Avoiding offers that seem too good to be true
- Never paying for a job offer!
