The rising rent in the FCT is no longer just a concern, it is a daily reality for many tenants who pay from the little they earn. This docu-video highlights the pressure, the pain, and the need for urgent action on housing affordability intervention in Abuja.

We are proud to share highlights from our climate change advocacy training held across four communities in Abuja: Mpape, Dutse Alhaji, Dutse Pe, and Katampe.
This training strengthened community awareness, inspired action, and deepened the conversation on climate responsibility and sustainability.
Together, we can build greener, safer, and more resilient communities.

Abuja residents came together at Novare Central Mall for the first edition of City Conversations.

The focus was simple: rent.

From shared experiences, one thing stood out. Many residents are dealing with high rent, inflexible payment structures, and poor service delivery.

Participants spoke openly about the pressure of paying above their income, sudden rent increases, and the lack of clear tenancy protections.

The session also introduced a rent calculator tool to help residents understand how much of their income goes into housing.

Beyond the stories, there was a clear outcome. Residents want stronger policies, more flexible payment systems, and increased government involvement in housing.

This is the starting point. The conversation continues...

The Abuja Women Urban Coalition has taken a major step forward.

At a recent leadership session in Durumi, women from communities across Abuja came together to elect new leaders and agree on how the coalition will grow.

The process was open and participatory. New executives have now been entrusted with leading the coalition, while HipCity Innovation Centre continues to provide support in the background.

What stood out was the shared commitment to unity, transparency, and community-driven leadership.

This is how strong coalitions are built, from the ground up.

Today, we pause not just to celebrate work, but to honour the spirit behind it, the quiet resilience of Nigerians who show up every day, even when the road is anything but smooth.

At Hipcity Innovation Centre, we see you.
The early mornings, the long commutes, the rising costs, the weight of responsibility that doesn’t clock out at 5pm. Yet, in the face of it all, you remain focused. You keep building, serving, creating, and pushing forward.

That is not ordinary. That is strength.

But resilience alone is not enough for the times we are in. Survival now demands adaptation. It calls for relearning, unlearning, and stepping into new possibilities. The world is shifting, and so must we. Skills must evolve. Ideas must stretch. Side hustles are no longer just extra income, they are becoming lifelines, safety nets, and in many cases, the seeds of future enterprises.

This is a call, not just to endure, but to grow intentionally.

Invest in knowledge.
Explore new skills.
Leverage technology.
Turn passion into value.
And most importantly, stay rooted in service, because true impact still lies in how well we solve problems for others.

Nigeria’s workforce is not weak. It is simply being tested. And like every test, it carries within it the opportunity to emerge wiser, stronger, and more self-reliant.

As we mark this Workers’ Day, may we not only celebrate labour, but also commit to sustainability through innovation, continuous learning, and purposeful hustle.

The future may be uncertain, but with the right mindset and tools, it is still ours to shape.

Happy Workers’ Day.
