My Best Teacher Appreciation 2026 is a special initiative dedicated to recognizing and celebrating teachers and lecturers who have made a positive and lasting impact on the lives of their students. It provides an opportunity for individuals to nominate educators from primary, secondary, or tertiary institutions who have inspired, mentored, and shaped their future through dedication, excellence, and selfless service. Through this initiative, we honor the invaluable contributions of teachers and express our gratitude for their role in building a better society.

A Day of Dialogue, Listening and Commitment. 📍 Bwari Area Council

We had the privilege of visiting the Executive Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. Joshua Ishaku Musa, alongside members of his team, including councillors and the Chief of Staff.

During the visit, our Executive Director presented materials highlighting the priorities and needs identified by residents across Bwari, creating an opportunity for meaningful conversation around inclusive development and accountable leadership.

We appreciate the Chairman and his team for the warm reception, openness and willingness to listen to the concerns of the people. His commitment to working towards ensuring that communities across Bwari benefit from his administration is a step we welcome.

AWUC PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRS

Today, 8 September 2026, the Abuja Women Urban Coalition (AWUC), led by its President, Mrs Cecilia Dauda, and Vice President, Mrs Liyatu Yusuf, paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Abuja.

The delegation was received by the Director of Women Development at the Ministry.

The engagement focused on the housing insecurity and displacement challenges confronting women and vulnerable households across informal and low-income communities in the FCT.

AWUC, a grassroots coalition representing over 5,000 women across communities in Abuja, presented key concerns around forced evictions, demolition, alternative accommodation, fair compensation, community consultation and the protection of women, children and other vulnerable groups.

Particular attention was drawn to the concerns of residents of Durumi IDP Camp and Daki Biu, where displacement and housing insecurity remain major concerns for affected households.

AWUC called for stronger collaboration between grassroots women's organisations and government institutions, including greater participation of women in decisions affecting housing, relocation, resettlement and urban development.

The visit marks another step towards ensuring that the voices of grassroots women are heard where decisions about their homes and communities are made.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
MEDIA DOCUMENTARY CONSULTANT

HipCity Innovation Centre with the support of Misereor is seeking the services of a Media Documentary Consultant to produce a 15-minute documentary on Urban Loss and Damage in Abuja’s Informal Settlements.

Background
Abuja is experiencing rapid urbanisation, climate-related risks, inadequate infrastructure, displacement, flooding and other urban challenges that disproportionately affect people living in informal settlements.
The documentary will document the everyday realities of urban loss and damage experienced by vulnerable communities in Abuja. It will highlight community voices and experiences while drawing attention to the need for stronger urban governance, meaningful people’s participation, and strategic actions to protect the most vulnerable populations in the city, and will position these experiences within a broader call for inclusive, people-centered urban governance.

Scope of Assignment
The selected consultant will be expected to:
*Develop the documentary concept and storyline in consultation with HipCity Innovation Centre.
*Conduct interviews with residents, community leaders, relevant experts and other key stakeholders.
*Undertake field filming in selected informal settlements within Abuja.
*Produce and edit a 15-minute documentary with compelling visuals, interviews and narratives.
*Incorporate relevant data, graphics and other supporting materials where appropriate.
*Ensure the documentary effectively communicates issues of urban loss and damage, inequality, vulnerability, governance and citizen participation.
*Submit a final, broadcast-quality documentary suitable for public awareness, advocacy, digital and stakeholder engagement.

Assignment Period
The assignment will be implemented between October and November 2026.

Who Can Apply?
We welcome applications from experienced:
*Individual documentary filmmakers and media production consultants;
*Film/video production companies;
*Creative teams with demonstrated experience in documentary production, urban issues, climate change, development or community storytelling.

Applicants should demonstrate strong storytelling, filming, interviewing, and post-production capabilities, as well as experience working with communities and sensitive development issues.

Application Requirements
Interested applicants should submit:
1.Expression of Interest outlining their understanding of the assignment and proposed approach;
2.Brief profile/CV of the consultant or production team;
3.Proposed workplan/timeline; and
4.Detailed financial proposal/cost and budget for the assignment.

Last week, our Executive Director Mr Bassey Bassey was a guest facilitator at the just concluded Nigerian Green Academy Fellowship organized by the Heinrich Böll Foundation - Abuja Office.

His session was on advocacy for inclusive city making and was saddled with the tasks of opening the lens of observation through which each of the fellows see the city, understand the interplay of politics, politics of access and policy and guide the fellows to become inclusive city advocates.

His session was very engaging as fellows for the first time could understand urban planning and policies and how it shapes their daily living.
