The 3rd Cohort of the Lassa Fever Clinical Management Fellowship is advancing its practicum at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, strengthening the clinical expertise and practical skills needed to respond effectively to Lassa fever and other highly infectious diseases.

Through hands-on learning and clinical engagement, fellows are translating knowledge into practice and building the confidence to deliver timely, evidence-based care when it matters most.

At the National Conference on Infection Control in Abuja, GGHN contributed to the first scientific session with an oral presentation on the digital assessment of healthcare waste management infrastructure and segregation compliance across 42 health facilities in Northern Nigeria.

The presentation was based on findings from the baseline assessment of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and healthcare waste management practices across ACE 2 supported facilities in Kano, Bauchi, and Jigawa States, conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Infection Control and Patient Safety (CICaPS), College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

The team will also present a poster on strengthening patient safety and care quality through IPC training among healthcare workers.

Day 1 brought insightful discussions, actionable recommendations, and a clear reminder of the role strong IPC practices play in Nigeria’s health security.

Day one of the 3rd Cohort of the Lassa Fever Clinical Management Fellowship clinical practicum is underway at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital. Participants are building on five weeks of virtual learning through clinical training designed to strengthen their skills in managing highly infectious diseases.

After 5 weeks of virtual didactic sessions, the clinical practicum aspect for the 3rd Cohort of the Lassa Fever Clinical Management Fellowship commenced at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, Edo State. 31 successful participants will undergo a 5-day intensive clinical training across multiple specialities, to consolidate knowledge gain and sharpen clinical skills and practice towards clinical management of highly infectious diseases.

Strong programmes are built on continuous learning and accountability.

Over three days, colleagues from the Finance, Human Resources, Compliance, Grants, and Operations, Logistics, Procurement, Store and Inventory teams came together for the 2026 Post-Audit Review Meeting and Tax REV360 Orientation to review audit findings, share lessons learned, and strengthen the systems and processes that support implementation of the Accelerating Control of the HIV Epidemic (ACE 2) project.

Through collaborative discussions, participants identified practical actions to improve internal processes, reinforce accountability, strengthen tax compliance, and enhance operational performance across the project.

As the Diagnostic Network Optimization (DNO) Scenario Creation Workshop drew to a close, participants translated a week of technical modeling into a framework for a national DNO policy document, the formal foundation for carrying Nigeria’s diagnostic roadmap forward.

Technical experts and stakeholders worked together to validate the preferred scenario, identify strategic actions for implementation, and harmonize a draft policy framework — presented alongside clear action points the Federal Ministry of Health and partners can act on.

Five days of validating data, testing scenarios, and building consensus have produced what Nigeria set out to build: an evidence-based roadmap for a more connected and resilient diagnostic network, with stronger coordination and more efficient access to quality laboratory services for every Nigerian.

Artificial intelligence is changing the way organizations solve problems, make decisions, and deliver impact.

Over two days, members of the GGHN team participated in the AI and the Future of Work: NGOs and the Development Sector training in Kano, exploring practical ways artificial intelligence can strengthen programme implementation, improve efficiency, and support better decision making across the development sector.

As AI continues to shape the future of global health and development, building the knowledge and skills to use these tools responsibly will be essential to delivering more effective and responsive programmes for the communities we serve.
