Faith-based health facilities provide care for millions of people across sub-Saharan Africa, often serving communities that are hardest to reach and helping build trust where it matters most.

But what role can faith-based health systems play in strengthening health outcomes, expanding access to care, and supporting more resilient health systems?

Join Our CEO, Dr. Bola Ibrahim Gobir, alongside global health leaders and practitioners for a conversation on Faith-Based Health Systems: Building Trust in Sub-Saharan Africa, hosted by the Georgetown-Lancet Commission on Faith, Trust, and Health.

Together, they will explore lessons, experiences, and opportunities for strengthening the contribution of faith-based health systems across the region.

Real change starts at the grassroots. 🌱

We are incredibly honored to officially launch and demonstrate our new TAKAWA application at the palace of His Royal Highness the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II (Sanusi Lamido Sanusi), alongside the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Kano State.

At GGHN, we designed TAKAWA to be a digital bridge for our traditional institutions. The platform empowers grassroots leaders to report critical health and social issues, like malnutrition, maternal health and domestic violence, in real time.

Here’s how it works: Mai Unguwas report events in their communities, which are reviewed by supervising Dagacis, who then report to the Hakimai. This seamless hierarchy means that His Royal Highness the Emir and the Honourable Commissioner for Health now have a direct, comprehensive view of community-level health indicators. The result? Faster interventions, data-driven decisions, and a stronger safety net for the people.

Seeing the incredible turnout and broad-based support from key state officials, Hakimai from all 44 Local Government Areas, and dedicated Dagacis and Mai Unguwas from Kura LGA was deeply inspiring.

This is what it looks like when tradition and technology come together for public welfare!

When an outbreak happens, speed matters. And speed depends on how quickly information moves between surveillance teams, laboratories, and decision-makers.

For too long, moving information between systems has often meant duplicate data entry, delays, and disconnected records.

That is now changing.

In collaboration with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and Astrigate Technologies, GGHN has successfully completed the interoperability between the Electronic National Laboratory Information System (eN-LIS) and the Surveillance Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System (SORMAS), allowing laboratory and surveillance data to move seamlessly between both systems.

This means information entered by surveillance teams can flow directly to laboratories, while laboratory results can flow back into surveillance systems, creating a stronger connection between detection, testing, and response.

Validated by NCDC and ready for deployment, this milestone brings Nigeria closer to a more connected public health information ecosystem where critical data can move faster to the people who need it.

From Ebola to emerging infectious threats: what can past outbreaks teach us about the future of epidemic preparedness?

Join the next session of the Lassa Fever Clinical Management Community of Practice (LFCM-CoP) Webinar Series as we revisit lessons from the 2014 Ebola Virus Disease outbreak, explore their relevance to current preparedness and response efforts, and examine what they may tell us about emerging threats such as Hantavirus.

The success of a vaccination campaign is often measured in numbers: children reached, households visited, communities covered.

But behind those numbers are conversations, return visits, problem-solving, and the persistence of health workers who continue engaging families until concerns are addressed and children can be protected.

This is one of those stories.

Through dialogue with families, support from community leaders, and a commitment to addressing concerns, Fatima Abdullahi and her team helped ensure that eight children whose parents initially refused vaccination were eventually protected during the March 2026 polio campaign in Kano State.

Stories like this highlight the role of trust, community engagement, and sustained follow-up in ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be protected against polio.

Improving community health outcomes requires strong coordination across different levels of the health system.

As part of ongoing engagement for the Takawa community reporting system, we met with the Kano State Commissioner for Health to share the vision behind the initiative and discuss its role in supporting maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition, and early action at community level.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to deepen collaboration ahead of the project launch and align on how the system can support community-level reporting and response.
