We all have a role to play in shaping the Nigeria we want.

Change does not begin with someone else. It begins when we individually and collectively take responsibility, when we speak up, when we get involved, and actively participate in improving the things we complain about.

As Dr Oby Ezekwesili aka (Madam Due Process), reminds us, the future of our nation is also our responsibility.

Nigeria’s young population cuts across different states, cultures, backgrounds and experiences, but many of us share the same hopes and aspirations: quality education, decent work, security, opportunity, a voice in governance and a future worth believing in.

With millions of young Nigerians already contributing as entrepreneurs, students, farmers, creatives, innovators, professionals and community leaders, the conversation should no longer be about young people as the future. Young people are already shaping Nigeria’s present realities.

Yet, millions of young Nigerians still face barriers to education, employment, digital access, funding, security and meaningful participation in decision-making.

This International Youth Day, we must move beyond celebrating young people to listening to them, investing in their ideas, creating opportunities, and including them in decisions that affect their lives.

At Promad Nigeria, we believe young people should not only be beneficiaries of development. They should be partners in building it.

Happy International Youth Day. The Nigeria we want is achievable.

Between July 2024 and June 2025, more than 4,000 people were victims of kidnapping in Nigeria.

But behind these numbers are families selling everything they own to save their loved one. Children missing school. Communities living in fear to travel, work or simply live their lives.

We cannot allow kidnapping to become something Nigerians simply learn to live with. This administration must do more to dismantle the criminal networks behind these abductions by strengthening state and community policing.

This is not just about addressing insecurity, but protecting the right of Nigerians to live without fear.

“It is not the responsibility of citizens to believe in the system again; government and its institutions must prove they are worthy of the people’s trust.” —

Trust in government is earned through action, not just just demanded from citizens.
When the government listens, responds to the needs of the people and delivers on its promises, trust grows.

Whether at the federal, state or local level, elected leaders must remember that good governance is not simply about occupying public office. It is about using that office to improve people's lives and demonstrating, through action, that government truly belongs to the people.

A responsive and accountable government is how we rebuild trust and strengthen democracy.

One of the true tests of any democracy isn't whether people can praise the government. It's whether they can question it without fear.

Every Nigerian has a right to ask questions, to demand transparency and to expect accountability from those entrusted with public office. That's not being unpatriotic, that ‘s being an Active Citizen.

A nation grows stronger when different voices are heard, Healthy democracies are built on conversations, not conformity.

We call on this administration to protect free speech. Let's encourage fair and respectful dialogue. And remember, that accountability is not an attack on the government, it's a cornerstone of any democracy.

"The trouble with Nigeria is simply and squarely a failure of leadership." - Chinua Achebe

A nation reflects the character of its leaders.

When leaders choose integrity over cutting corners, accountability over excuses, and service over self-interest, the people notice. Trust grows and hope returns.

The sacrifices leaders are asking of Nigerians must first be visible in their own actions. Because leadership is not measured by promises or speeches, but by the examples it sets every day.

The Nigeria we want is achievable, and it begins with leaders who lead by example.
