📢 A Meaningful Conclusion to Our Project Journey

Attachi People Initiative has successfully concluded its project with a final press briefing, bringing together the progress, lessons, conversations, and impact recorded throughout our work to promote the rights and dignity of the Original Inhabitants of the FCT.

From community engagements and town hall meetings to sensitization workshops, radio conversations, cultural advocacy, and stakeholder engagement, this journey has created important spaces for Indigenous voices to be heard and for conversations around representation, political participation, cultural preservation, identity, and Indigenous rights to take centre stage.

We sincerely appreciate our community members, elders, youth, women, Persons With Disabilities, traditional leaders, resource persons, media partners, stakeholders, and everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this project.

Our deepest appreciation also goes to CHRICED and the MacArthur Foundation for their support and commitment to this important work.

As this project comes to an end, the conversation continues. The relationships built, lessons learned, and voices amplified will remain part of the ongoing work toward a future where the rights, dignity, culture, and identity of the FCT Original Inhabitants are recognised and protected.

Thank you for being part of the journey. Together, we made an impact. ✊🏾

🌍 Celebrating Our Heritage, Honouring Our Women, Preserving Our Identity

The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples 2026 celebration has come to a successful and meaningful close.

This year's celebration placed a well-deserved spotlight on Indigenous Midwives and the invaluable knowledge, courage, and traditional practices they have carried across generations. Their role goes beyond childbirth—they are custodians of community knowledge, cultural traditions, identity, and intergenerational heritage.

Under the theme, “Celebrating Indigenous Midwives — Preserving Abuja Original Inhabitants Identity in a Changing World,” the programme created space for rich conversations around:

🔹 Preserving the cultural identity of Abuja's Original Inhabitants
🔹 Recognising and documenting Indigenous knowledge and traditional practices
🔹 Honouring the contributions of Indigenous women and midwives
🔹 Protecting cultural heritage in the face of rapid social change
🔹 Passing traditions, values, stories, and knowledge to younger generations
🔹 Promoting the rights, dignity, and visibility of Indigenous communities
🔹 Strengthening collective responsibility for preserving our heritage and identity

Beyond the conversations, the celebration was a powerful reminder that culture is not simply something we inherit—it is something we must actively protect, practice, and pass on.

From the wisdom of our elders to the energy of our youth, every generation has a role to play in ensuring that the identity and heritage of the Original Inhabitants of Abuja remain alive and respected.

✨ We celebrate our culture. We honour our custodians. We protect our identity.

Attachi People Initiative remains committed to creating platforms that amplify Indigenous voices, celebrate our heritage, and promote the rights and dignity of the FCT Original Inhabitants.
