COMMENTARY
We are starting teaching on this pivotal topic: "Christianity is a coin of two faces, Spirituality and welfare." At such subsequent devotional in this series will have Sub topics instead of topics. In following up with the series, do well to cross-check your Bible and you will gain immensely. Many are bold to challenge themselves among members of congratulations with such words like: "Church is not a charity organization." Sincerely "if a purpose of a thing is not known, abuse of it would be inevitable"~Myles Munroe. We shall be delving deep into Spirituality and welfare as core principles in building a Christlike Life.

Christianity is denial of self. God centered and neighbors centered and not self-centered. Anyone who in his actions and inactions does not portray the love for God and love for neighbors but loving self has not met the man of Calvary. If you genuinely have Spiritual ears and following the dictates of God to your life, then manifestation of self won't be found in you. In order to develop a full Christlike Life, we have to shut the ears of flesh and tune into the frequency of the Holy Spirit.

In the passage in review, Jesus Summarized the Commandments into two: namely Love for God, and Love for people. This makes it fifty percent God and fifty percent humanity. Nothing was remaining for self. The fifty percent remaining for neighbors is where we have our share. It's for you and your neighbors. This is to say everything you have is not for yourself, God has given it to you, for your use and for others.

Text: ```‭1 Samuel 16:11-13 NIV‬
[11] So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” [12] So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” [13] So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.```
COMMENTARY
Negative energy geared towards self gratification brings confusion into peoples lives. Let's look at what David said about his experience. Psalm 37:25 "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread" (NIV). This was King David recounting his experience from his youthful age. As a young lad, he took care of his father's flock without grudges or waiting for his siblings. He has a large heart, takes up responsibility and never shifting responsibility to others.

David was a man willing to volunteer himself in defense of people of God and in defense of righteousness. He said that he has never seen the righteous forsaken. This word signifies that he was a defender of righteousness. As a youth, do you have value for righteousness? Or you are among those who says righteousness doesn't matter? There is a reward for staying on the right path.

King Solomon, Son of David and his immediate successor said that _"Righteousness exalt a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people, Proverbs 14:34 (NIV)."_ Serving others is a righteous path and through it God honors and remembers a generation of people. Service that David was rendering in a far away bush was ringing bell in the heart of God while those at home were confused about whom God will lift by anointing, God was refining a young diligent David, equipping him with wisdom, patience, tolerance, accommodative and excellent Spirit. He served Soul wholeheartedly without thinking of himself but of the good of others.

*Food for thought:* _We are prone to losing when we think too much of ourselves. We begin to win when we put others first._

*Prayer:* ```Lord grant me the grace to count others into consideration, not always myself in Jesus name.```

David's experience shows that serving others can lead to unexpected opportunities. I once volunteered to Organize local missionaries in expectation to host international missionaries. The commitment and the activities brought me in contact with a missionary that has access to men of worths in that City. Within two months I was introduced to a powerful man in that City which amplified my professional career. I believe most of David's brothers could have been eyeing the throne but David was so busy in the bush. Activities that David is doing is inconsequential and unconnected to throne, yet through that route, God proved him and his testimonies marvels hearers.

Service is a preparation ground. Many people run away from serving others, seeing it as belittling or humiliating themselves before others. David chose to serve his father, taking care of his sheep in far away bushes. I could remember while growing up in Eastern Nigeria, almost every family have goats that is normally kept in a pen. It was the duty of young boys to go into the bushes, fetch grasses and feed the goats. I could still remember how unfaithful most of us were then to that simple task. Some would go playing football or some other games instead of facing their assignment. Some are just busy bodies prying into affairs that doesn't concern them.

Food for thought: _Faithful Service can lead to unexpected open doors: Voluntary services can bring life changing connections._

Prayer: ```Help me Lord to develop a servant's heart, seeking greatness through faithful service. May my motivation be pure and my actions reflect your love and humility.```

*Topic:* _Soul winning: Compassion over the lost._

*Text:* ```‭Matthew 28:18-20 NIV‬
[18] Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19] Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”```
*COMMENTARY*
When we lack compassion for others, we fail to genuinely connect with their struggles and needs. Without this empathetic connection, our prayers and requests to God on their behalf become hollow and lack sincerity. Consequently, our lack of compassion and heartfelt intercession hinders God's willingness to intervene in their lives, leaving them without the divine guidance and support they need. A Sinner can abandon his ways based on divine intervention. It takes a passionate intercessor to pull up triggers that pull the heart of God to intervene.

You have the power to reclaim and redeem the time starting now. Be encouraged to approach this prayer on Soul winning with renewed passion, a sense of urgency, and unwavering commitment. Don't let another moment slip away - pour your heart and soul into this prayer, and watch how God can transform your life and circumstances. By praying with passion, you'll inject energy and sincerity into your words. With a sense of urgency, you'll prioritize your requests and seek God's answers with intentionality. And through commitment, you'll demonstrate your dedication to seeking God's will and guidance.

Making disciple of a nation sounds so simple but it's a little complex in the sense that it's a complete curriculum and not just a straightforward go and tell them. You will uphold the intended person to disciple in prayer, follow him up, teach him and as well giving heed to the authority of Jesus Christ. Most of us do nothing about having compassion over the lost but are desirous of dramatic change in their lives. It seems we are unaware that there are forces contending over souls of men. Do we genuinely contend on our prayer altars for souls. Men of Old pray for souls but nowadays, men are praying for money. What a misplaced priority? Do we still consider and value the ancient paths?

*Food for thought:* _Without compassion, there can be no heartfelt intercession; and without intercession, there can be no divine intervention._

*Prayer:* ```Help my heart Lord to yield unto prayer of seeking the lost in Jesus name.```

*Topic:* _Soul winning: Are you involved in any way?_

*Text:* ```‭1 Corinthians 9:19-20 NIV‬[19] Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. [20] To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law.```
*COMMENTARY*
Soul winning refers to the act of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others, with the goal of leading them to a personal relationship with Him and ultimately, to salvation. There is a hunger that will come to you before you will step out to passionately look for the lost. Before one would get involved, he will need to value what he is looking for. Yes, those who migrated from one locality to urban areas had something in mind and they passionately engaged themselves in getting better jobs, earning better salary and so on.

You won't have the urge to win anyone unless you have weighed the value of winning Soul. Until you attach significant importance to souls, you won't want to sacrifice your comfort to gain the wanted souls. Winning a soul requires a lot of wisdom, discernment and sacrifices. If we can all rekindle our love towards humanity as believers in Christ, many souls would be caught up in our net every day.

Do you know that you have your gospel shoes on your legs every day? As you go to work, move around, interact with clients, customers, you ought to prepare your legs for gospel. The problem is that we are not willing to behave like Christ before our clients, customers and co workers or even those who we met at motor park, train station or airport. Can you imagine conversations that strikes the cord of our souls, such as between Christ and the Samaritan woman?

*Food for thought:* _Get yourself armed with baits and also with words that strikes the cord of human souls._

*Prayer:* ```Lord give me required wisdom that I will need to get actively involved in soul winning in Jesus name.```

Topic: _Rejecting Knowledge_

Text: ```‭Hosea 4:6 NIV‬
[6] my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.```
COMMENTARY
In today's world, knowledge is power. It's the key to success, progress, and understanding. Yet, many people reject knowledge, often to their own detriment. There are attendant Consequences of rejecting Knowledge:
Ignorance: Rejecting knowledge leads to ignorance, which can lead to poor decisions and harmful actions.
Destruction: Hosea 4:6 warns that rejecting knowledge can lead to destruction.
Spiritual Darkness: Rejecting knowledge of God's word can lead to spiritual darkness and separation from Him.

Those who rejected knowledge didn't do so with sober mind, instead something influence them. There are several factors that could make individual to progress in ignorance instead of knowledge. For instance: *Pride:* Pride can lead us to think we already know enough, causing us to reject new knowledge.
Fear: Fear of change or the unknown can cause us to reject knowledge.
Apathy: A lack of interest or motivation can lead to a rejection of knowledge.

The Importance of Embracing Knowledge cannot be overemphasized. Knowledge of God's word catalyses:
Spiritual Growth: Embracing knowledge of God's word leads to spiritual growth and a deeper understanding of Him.
Wisdom: Knowledge helps us make wise decisions and navigate life's challenges.
Progress: Embracing knowledge leads to progress and innovation in various fields.

*Food for thought:* _Knowledge of God's word brings light into our life but ignorance of it encourages darkness to surround us._

Prayer: ```May we embrace the power of knowledge to transform our lives and the world around us in Jesus name.```

Topic: _Knowledge is Power_

Text: ```‭Hosea 4:6 NIV‬

COMMENTARY
Knowledge is Power to those who possess them and a weakness to those who lack them. God Spoke through His prophet about the destructive nature of lack of knowledge and Understanding. A man without understanding could be recruited by another to embark on a fight he wouldn't have embarked upon if he has understanding. Without understanding, we're powerless against misinformation, manipulation, and exploitation.

How can someone be a priest representing God and rejects knowledge, ignores the Law (God's Commandments)? It is really a critical matter. What will you do, if you discover that a pilot whom you just boarded his flight is untrained, rejected the basic knowledge of aerospace? Will you forfeit your ticket and alight from the plane or go ahead and risk your trip?

Conversely, someone could be ignorant of the identity of the untrained pilot and fly with him. Whatever comes out of the journey becomes his fate. Our illustration however is only to paint an image as our scripture passage is keen on Shepherds who rejected knowledge. If a risky journey awaits an individual who boarded a flight of an inexperienced and untrained Pilot, a believer who keep hearing sermon from pulpit where shepherd rejected knowledge is also risking his/her journey to eternity. Without knowledge, you will be powerless in the face of manipulation and misinformation.

Food for thought: _Ignorance is a liability, knowledge is a liberator, it frees us from the shackles of ignorance, bias and prejudice._

Prayer: ```Deliver me Lord from ignorance, empower me with knowledge of your Law in Jesus name.```

COMMENTARY
We have taken time to discuss several factors that can weaken faith. Today we will discuss how lack of knowledge could be a hindrance to exercise of faith or even weaken and neutralize the little faith we have already. It is very important to seek knowledge and also have a proper understanding about anything you are getting involved in. If you jump into anything just because you see others doing that, the consequences could be fatal as you will do yours without understanding.

Have you ever considered embarking on a business you did not know anything about? One man in our area embarked on poultry one certain time. About four hundred broilers. He also had a piggry section. He employed a farmer who didn't have knowledge about farm. For two weeks the farmer didn't observe the symptom of new castle disease, he didn't know about isolation method. Before the owner came to the farm in two weeks time, it was already late. The disease degenerated and spread in the farm. He couldn't remove a single bird from the farm as the bird died like 50 birds per day. As a matter of fact, the third weekend, all the birds in that farm perished.

That is what happened to broilers within few weeks under the care of a man without understanding. How are you handling your life, family and ministry? Are you under a man of knowledge and Understanding? Who is shepherding you? There are many inexperienced shepherds today that are causing much damage in the lives of teenagers and youths. In matter of few years, lots of damages without hope of recovery would have happened.

Food for thought: _Ignorance is not bliss. Lack of knowledge can lead to poor decisions, harmful actions, and missed opportunities._

Prayer: ```Lord restore, revive and redirect my steps. Don't allow me Lord to remain in ignorance. Guide my paths into knowledge and Understanding in Jesus name.```

Topic: _Challenges that follows trials and tribulations_

‭ Text: ```Matthew 24:10-12 NIV‬
[10] At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, [11] and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. [12] Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,```
COMMENTARY
Naturally, trials and tribulations are supposed to refine us, cause a deeper love for God and bring about fervency. It is important to know that trials and tribulations are inevitable in life. However, what comes after can be even more challenging. Trials primarily come to confront our faith, to inject fear, doubts, and make us to question God. Today, we'll explore the challenges that follow trials and tribulations

One of the challenges of trial is that it brings discouragement. Feeling defeated, hopeless, and faithless (2 Corinthians 4:17-18). Have you ever passed through trial? Or have you seen one going through trial? It affects one's confession. Doubt will set in and one will start questioning God's goodness, sovereignty, and love (James 1:2-4). Another monster you will meet at the junction of trial is fear. Fear of the future, fear of failure, fear of the unknown. Amidst trials confusion can set in. One could become confused and uncertain about God's plan and purpose.

However adverse, fierce or devastating, a trial might be, we should know that God has provisions to make sure that we don't fall during trials. We will highlight necessary things that helps believers in overcoming trials:
*Faith*: Trusting God's character and promises (Hebrews 11:6)
*Perseverance*: Enduring through trials, knowing they produce maturity (James 1:4)
*Hope*: Fixing our eyes on eternal glory, not temporary struggles (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)
*Support*: Surrounding ourselves with encouraging community (Galatians 6:2)
*Worship*: Lifting our eyes to God's greatness, even in darkness (Psalm 121:1-2)

Food for thought: _Trials are temporary, but their impact is eternal. Remember that trials are short-lived, but the strength and wisdom gained from them can last a lifetime._

Prayer: ```Do not allow trials and tribulations to terminate my relationship with you Lord rather make it a refiner of my faith in Jesus name.```

Topic: _How to Overcome Worldly distractions_

Text: ‭ ```Colossians 3:1-3 NIV‬
[1] Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. [3] For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.```
COMMENTARY
Overcoming worldly distractions and desires requires Self-awareness, Recognizing our vulnerabilities and areas of temptation. Knowing who we are and the important of upholding what we have rather than scratching for worldly, earthly materialism at the expense of our salvation. We should realize that our Soul have eternal life already and we are carrying eternity about. So what we carry in us is greater than whatever we could aspire to achieve here.

We also need to Prioritize our heavenly race over earthly materialism and competitions. One major problem in our generation is lack of focus. Social activities are making many people to be carried away forgetting and misplacing what should be primary to replace them with peripheral materialism. Focusing on eternal values and spiritual growth should be our daily pursuit.

We should cultivate the culture of discipline and moderation. We should practice self-control and moderation in worldly pursuits. Surrounding ourselves with people who encourage spiritual growth. Cultivating a deep relationship with God and seeking His guidance and strength. By acknowledging the dangers of worldly distractions and desires, we can take steps to overcome them and live a life that honors God and aligns with our purpose.

Food for thought: _Worldly distraction is a plague that malnurish our Spirit man and blind our visions of eternity._

Prayer: ```Lord grant me grace to persevere on the right track in Jesus name.```

Text: ```1 John 2:15-17 NIV
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. [16] For everything in the world---the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life---comes not from the Father but from the world. [17] The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
``` COMMENTARY
When we allow ourselves to be distracted, it affects our general performance in life. Nobody can effectively be productive amidst distractions. When we are so much distracted it could result in Spiritual stagnation: Worldly distractions and desires can hinder our spiritual growth and maturity.
It will also lead to Idolatry: Placing worldly desires above God can lead to idolatry and a distorted sense of priorities. Many Christians today worship and idolize Mammon. They have more confidence in what money does rather than what God provides. In chasing after material things there is a great dissatisfaction. Chasing worldly desires often leads to emptiness and dissatisfaction.
Broken relationships: Excessive focus on worldly desires can damage relationships with others and with God. Missed opportunities: Worldly distractions can cause us to miss opportunities for spiritual growth, service, and impact.
Food for thought: _Distractions come from our inward desires towards the world and things of the world._
Prayer: ```Direct my desires to grow more and more towards you Lord Jesus.```
``` COMMENTARY
Worldly distractions and desires refer to the various attractions and temptations that divert our attention and focus away from what is truly important, often leading us down a path of spiritual compromise and stagnation. Worldly distractions and desires can take many forms, including:
Materialism: Love of the world will lead to excessive desire to acquire material things. The pursuit of wealth, status, and possessions can consume our lives and distract us from eternal values.

Social media: The constant stream of information and the need for validation can lead to addiction and a loss of focus.
Entertainment: Excessive indulgence in entertainment can numb our minds and hearts, making us less receptive to spiritual truths.
Relationships: While relationships are important, excessive focus on human connections can lead to idolatry and distract us from our relationship with God.

Ambition: Unchecked ambition can drive us to prioritize success over spiritual growth and character development.
Pleasure: The pursuit of pleasure can lead to addiction and a life of selfishness, distracting us from our purpose and potential.
Fear and worry: Allowing fear and worry to dominate our thoughts can lead to anxiety and distract us from trusting in God's sovereignty.
