WAVE empowers survivors to share their stories and heal in a safe and passionate space through reclaiming their power over their body. With a survivor-centered approach, WAVE uplifts the voices of women. Advocates like us play an essential role in pushing for progressive policies and holding governments accountable to advance gender equality and respect, protect, and fulfil girls’ and women’s rights. Around the world, from country to country, advocacy campaigns and winning strategies may differ. Learning more about the related movements already taking place and connecting with other advocates helps to make sure we are not replicating efforts or working against strategic initiatives already underway. They told us it’s “tradition.”
We’re saying it ends with us.

Over 19 million girls and women in Nigeria have been affected.
That’s not culture — that’s harm.

We choose protection.
We choose dignity.
We choose change.

This generation is different.

We ask questions.
We speak up.
We say NO to what harms our girls.

FGM has no place in our future.

Read this slowly:

19 MILLION girls/women in Nigeria.
One country.

Now imagine if it was your daughter.
Your sister.
Your mother
Your friend.

This is why we speak.
This is why we act.

This generation is different.

We ask questions.
We speak up.
We say NO to what harms our girls.

FGM has no place in our future.

Hi,
I'm Lola.
I founded because silence protects violence.

For too long, Female Ge***al Mutilation has been hidden behind culture, fear, and complicity.

But let us be clear:
FGM is not tradition.
FGM is not religion.
FGM is violence.

Millions of girls in Nigeria remain at risk.

I will not be silent.
I will not negotiate with harm.
And I will not stop until every girl is protected.

If you believe girls deserve safety, dignity, and bodily autonomy —
Comment STOP.

Ramadan Mubarak 🌙
On behalf of Foundation Africa, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all Muslim faithful observing this sacred month of Ramadan.
As an organization deeply rooted in community development, social protection, and inclusive leadership, we recognize Ramadan as more than a spiritual season — it is a powerful reminder of discipline, accountability, compassion, and responsible stewardship. These are the very values that sustain strong institutions and thriving societies.

Across Nigeria and beyond, we continue to witness the resilience of families navigating economic and social pressures. This season calls us to reflect not only on personal devotion, but on collective responsibility — to build systems that protect the vulnerable, strengthen communities, and promote dignity for all.

At WAVE Foundation Africa, our commitment remains clear: to advance policies, partnerships, and community-driven solutions that foster justice, opportunity, and sustainable development. We believe that faith-inspired values and ethical leadership are essential pillars for national progress.

May this holy month renew our shared sense of purpose, deepen our unity, and inspire a generation of leaders who prioritize service above self.
May Allah accept your fasts and prayers, grant peace in every home, and guide us toward a more compassionate and prosperous society.

Ramadan Kareem.

*PRESS RELEASE*

*International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM)*
*6 February 2026*

*WAVE Foundation Africa Reaffirms Commitment to Ending Female Ge***al Mutilation in Nigeria and Across Africa*

On this International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation, WAVE Foundation Africa stands in solidarity with millions of girls and women whose bodily integrity, dignity, and fundamental human rights have been violated by this harmful practice.

Since its founding in *2016* , WAVE Foundation Africa has remained unwavering in its mission to end all forms of violence and exploitation against women and girls, with the elimination of Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) as a core pillar of its work.

“Female Ge***al Mutilation is not culture—it is violence. It is a violation of human rights, a public health concern, and a profound injustice that robs girls of their autonomy before they even have a voice,”Lola Ibrahim", President of WAVE Foundation Africa.
“Zero tolerance must be more than a slogan. It must translate into laws that are enforced, communities that are informed, and girls who are protected.”

*Our Journey and Key Achievements*

Over the past decade, WAVE Foundation Africa has grown from grassroots advocacy into a nationally and internationally recognized organization working across community, policy, and global advocacy spaces.

Key achievements include:

Sustained community sensitization and survivor-centered advocacy to challenge harmful social norms that sustain FGM.

Strategic use of media for social change, including the production of *End FGM radio and television jingles in Nigeria’s three major languages,* in collaboration with *NTA International.*

Development and distribution of *Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials* for students, strengthening early prevention through education.

Active *policy advocacy,* contributing to national discourse on the *Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPP Act)* & Constitutional Amendments and the need for stronger implementation and accountability.

Look at us! we made it.

Together, we journeyed through another year of meaningful work, tough decisions, and quiet acts of resilience that often went unseen. We faced challenges that didn’t make the headlines and we celebrated wins that reminded us why this mission matters.

It wasn’t always easy. Transforming communities and advancing change rarely is.

But we showed up consistently.
We stood for women, young people, and vulnerable communities.
We listened, advocated, collaborated, and kept the vision alive even when the path felt uncertain.

For your commitment, your partnership, your time, your voice, and your belief in a better future. We say thank you.

Thank you to our volunteers, partners, donors, and community members for every effort, big or small. Thank you for choosing impact, compassion, and excellence, even on the difficult days.

Some of us experienced breakthroughs this year. Others experienced steady growth. Many of us lived somewhere in between. But no matter what the year brought, we finished it together. And that alone is worth celebrating.

Thank you for walking this journey with WAVE Foundation.
Thank you for standing with courage, for showing up for others, and for continuing to believe in change.

Happy New Year.
Here’s to 2026 🥂 to deeper impact, stronger communities, and more lives transformed.

🌍 is proud to participate in shaping global conversations on integrity, governance, and inclusive leadership!
We are delighted to share that our Founder and President, Lola Ibrahim-FNIA, M'ARCON, Int'l Assoc-AIA will be speaking as a panelist at the “Gender Norms in Corruption Dynamics and Anti-Corruption Strategies” session at , holding later this month in Doha, Qatar.
This high-level panel—organized by Besa Global in collaboration with OECD Development, UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime DC, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, CAEPOCOM Africa, UNU-MERIT, and WAVE Foundation Africa—will examine how societal norms influence vulnerability to corruption, patterns of corrupt behavior, and the unique ways women navigate these systems.
✨ Why Lola Ibrahim’s voice is critical in this moment:
Arc. Lola Ibrahim has worked at the intersection of community leadership, public accountability, and protection of vulnerable groups. Her advocacy work—rooted in experience from grassroots organizing to United Nations engagements—brings a necessary, practical, and deeply informed perspective to global anti-corruption dialogue.
Her participation comes at a pivotal time in , as the nation debates the for Bill—a call driven by the urgent need to expand women's representation in political leadership. With more women like Lola, who bring competence, integrity, and a track record of service, our governance systems become not just more inclusive, but more effective and resistant to corrupt structures.
Her insights at COSP11 echo the same message we are championing at home:
🔹 Strong nations need women with proven capacity at the decision-making table.
🔹 Anti-corruption and accountability efforts are stronger when women’s experiences and leadership are fully integrated into policy and practice.
🗓 Date: Thursday, December 18
⏰ Time: 8:00 AM AST | 6:00 AM CET
🎥 Join the session online: https://lnkd.in/g-z7X5mH
We celebrate this milestone and reaffirm our commitment to amplifying women's leadership—locally, nationally, and globally.
