A new chapter of service, justice and leadership begins. 💜⚖️

The Women Community in Africa (WCA) warmly welcomes and congratulates Ms. Hafsat Bola Usman, Esq., on her appointment as WCA Global Legal Director.

With experience spanning legal advocacy, Grievance Redress Mechanisms, Corporate and Property Law, women’s rights, leadership and community development, Ms. Usman brings both professional expertise and a strong commitment to empowering women and children.

Her work reflects a belief that African women must not only be protected by the systems around them, but empowered to lead, own and shape their communities.

As WCA continues to amplify the voices, rights and leadership of women across Africa, we are pleased to welcome Ms. Usman into our global leadership family. We look forward to the knowledge, advocacy and impact she will bring to our collective mission.

When partnerships create pathways to empowerment. 🤝🏾✨

WCA Kaduna, led by State Commissioner Ms. Comfort Ojo, paid a courtesy visit to Skills Fusion Kaduna to explore meaningful opportunities for partnership and collaboration.

The conversation centred on skills acquisition, technology-based training, rehabilitation and social inclusion, particularly for inmates within the Nigeria Correctional Service.

A promising proposal was the development of a specialised boot camp where selected inmates could gain practical skills and become peer trainers, helping extend the impact of the training to others.

For WCA Kaduna, this is about more than acquiring skills. It is about creating opportunities for empowerment, capacity building and meaningful reintegration into society.

The conversation has started. Now, the goal is to turn it into impact. 💚

Sometimes, meaningful change begins with simply showing up again. 💙

A few months after their courtesy visit to the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Kaduna, the Women Community in Africa (WCA), Kaduna State Command, returned—not just to check in, but to listen, support and take action.

Led by WCA Kaduna State Commissioner, Ms. Comfort Ojo, the team, in partnership with Projectsmile for Humanity Foundation, Mahcare Foundation, and the Centre for Made Advocacy for Mother and Child, delivered essential relief materials including water, washing soap, bathing soap and sanitary pads.

The visit also created space for deeper conversations about the needs of inmates, particularly around healthcare, vocational training, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and opportunities for income generation.

Because rehabilitation should be about more than confinement. It should also create opportunities for people to learn, rebuild and prepare for a meaningful return to society.

For WCA Kaduna, this visit is another step in a continuing commitment to human dignity, empowerment, rehabilitation and stronger communities.

Sometimes, the most powerful form of advocacy is not simply speaking about change—it is showing up and doing something about it.

WHEN WOMEN’S VOICES REACH A BIGGER AUDIENCE 🌍

Every movement has a story — a beginning, a vision and women who choose to keep showing up for change.

For Women Community in Africa (WCA), that journey recently reached a wider audience as the movement was featured on Good Morning Nigeria.

WCA Global President, Dr. Maimoona Salim, alongside WCA Vice President, Nigeria, Mrs Oreva Mathilda Egbi, shared the story of WCA, the work happening across its communities and the vision driving its commitment to women’s leadership, empowerment, participation and safer communities.

It was a powerful opportunity to reflect on the journey so far while looking ahead to the work that still needs to be done.

Because when women are empowered to speak, participate and lead, the impact extends far beyond one woman — it reaches families, communities and society.

We are grateful to Good Morning Nigeria for giving WCA the opportunity to share this story and connect with an even wider Nigerian audience.

Celebrating Youth Leadership and Representation! 🎉

Women Community in Africa (WCA) congratulates Hon. Hadiza Malumfashi Shehu, Head of the WCA Youth Arm, on her swearing-in as the Honourable Member representing Malumfashi LGA in the Katsina State Youth Parliament.

Her appointment is a testament to the importance of creating opportunities for young people, especially young women, to participate meaningfully in leadership and governance.

Recent conversations around mass weddings in Northern Nigeria have brought issues of poverty, vulnerability and women’s wellbeing into the spotlight.

The conversation should go beyond whether a wedding is affordable.

When governments and communities seek to support vulnerable women, we should also ask: are we creating sustainable opportunities for women to build secure and independent futures?

Education. Economic opportunity. Healthcare. Social protection. Safety. Agency.

These are all part of meaningful empowerment.

At WCA, we believe supporting women means expanding their choices and creating pathways to a future where they can thrive.

What does Nigeria lose when women are missing from decision-making spaces?

Women remain significantly underrepresented in Nigeria’s political institutions, even though they make up nearly half of the population. The ongoing conversation around the Special Seats Bill has brought women’s political representation back into focus.

Our townhall conversations are part of a bigger question: how do we move from simply talking about inclusion to creating systems where women can participate, lead and influence decisions?

At WCA, we believe women’s voices belong in every room where decisions about our communities and our future are made.

What would meaningful political inclusion look like in Nigeria?
