On Saturday, 29 August, we held our first meetup in Gombe, bringing together new and existing community members for discussions on pressing global problems, high-impact career pathways, and networking.

Participants explored resources from 80,000 Hours and the Effective Altruism forum (https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/), including "The World’s Biggest Problems", "What Makes for a High Impact Career", and "Planning a High Impact Career". Through group discussions, attendees reflected on which problems they consider most pressing, how they could contribute to solving them, and how to build career capital and pursue high-impact careers.

We were honoured to have Dr. Abubakar Umar, co-founder of Taimaka, share his organisation’s work addressing acute paediatric malnutrition in Gombe. Abubakar Ibrahim Waziri also shared his journey into a high-impact career, including lessons from founding his own project.

We are also excited about the growing interest of EA in Gombe, with several attendees coming together to form a city group that will support continued learning, engagement, and action.

EA Summit: Nigeria 2026 brought together 130+ students and professionals in Abuja on Saturday, 25th July, for a day of learning, networking, and meaningful conversations around some of the world’s most pressing problems.

We have many of the tools needed to solve the world's biggest health problems. Yet progress remains frustratingly slow because the global health ecosystem faces critical gaps in funding, advocacy, and coordination.

The Global Health Introductory Fellowship is a free 6-week programme that builds the foundations for engaging with these challenges, equipping participants with a sharper understanding of disease burden measurement, evidence-based prioritisation, policy advocacy, implementation, and career pathways into global health.

It is a structured peer discussion rather than lectures, grounded in real cases from smallpox eradication to lead-reduction campaigns.

The fellowship is designed by Health Progress Hub and co-organised by Effective Altruism South Africa and Effective Altruism Nigeria.

We organized a career planning workshop last Saturday for participants who completed our career planning program last month. The session included a range of exercises, as well as group discussions and presentations on topics such as how to build career capital, exploring high-impact career paths, and making thoughtful career decisions, among others.

The workshop concluded with a peer review session, during which participants presented their action plans for pursuing high-impact career paths.
