AASU DEMANDS
JUSTICE FOR ABDOULAYE BA,
Immediate Action by President Bassirou Faye
and Calm by all Students in Senegal
February 11, 2026

1. The All-Africa Students Union (AASU) is outraged but wishes to first of all convey our solidarity with Senegalese Students following the unrest escalating after a tragic incident at Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar – Republic of Senegal, where a second-year medical student, Abdoulaye Ba, was reportedly killed in cold blood by overzealous and unprofessional security officers following a protest over unpaid financial aid.

2. We condemn in strong terms the excessive force used by security forces even on a campus and on “well identified students” agitating on a well-known national issue hence demand an immediate independent investigation into Ba's death with outcome made public within 48hours as well as we welcome the release of most (105) of the arrested and detained students of Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar – Republic of Senegal.

3. While President Bassirou Diomaye Faye must up his game in addressing the country's economic challenges; he must also do more in prioritizing investments in Education, Student welfare and Campus Safety across Senegal with a view to forestalling persistent uprising from students who constitute a significant percentage of his genuine support base before and after Presidential Elections.

4. Finally – I wish to call on Senegalese Students in Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar and every other campus across the country to desist from any further violent protests and wanton Destruction of Education Infrastructure: but give room for expedited peaceful resolution of the crisis while we continue to appraise minute-by-minute developments as I once again, on behalf of the continental Students’ movement, express our unalloyed solidarity with you and urging peaceful resolution.

5. I still urge internal resolution mechanisms championed by the Senegalese National Students’ Union and other Student Leadership structures in Senegal to ensure the expedited de-escalation of any further hostilities, release of detained students, resumption of academic activities and commencement of constructive Dialogue as pathway to sustainable Resolution; above all, !

6. We stand with Senegalese students in demanding a better future for Africa.

L'AASU EXIGE
