Folic Acid! Alot of times this tiny tablet is underrated by some warriors and care givers. Other times it is because some warriors cant even afford it 😔.

From personal experience i have being very religious in taking folic acid i believe that is the secret to my good standard PCV but some time back i started skipping and then i experienced a very bad anemia which resulted in blood transfusion. Never hard transfusions through out my life except during surgeries. I had to renew my vow to respect 🫡 this tablet and never skip it. Also got an update from a Dr that it is better taken at bedtime as it works better.

Key Details on Folic Acid for Sickle Cell:

Why It's Used: Because SCD involves chronic hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells), the body requires more folate to create new cells.

Benefits: It helps manage symptoms of anemia and can support overall nutritional needs.

Common Dosage: Doctors often recommend 1 mg of folic acid daily, though some protocols use up to 5 mg.

Safety: While it is a standard, long-term supplement, some studies suggest that in areas with fortified foods, high-dose supplementation may not be necessary for everyone.

Found in fortified foods and supplements, it is the synthetic form of naturally occurring folate which can be found in greens 🥬 , citrus 🍊 fruits and legumes.

Defficiency causes anaemia lets try and adhere to regular intake of folic acid.
