In an interview at the event, the National Chairman of NCAAD, Amb. David Ayoka Atim reassured the NDLEA and all NGOs actively engaged in the fight against drug abuse of the coalition's continued and unwavering support.

"NCAAD stands firmly with the NDLEA and every NGO that has dedicated its resources and passion to this battle. This is not a fight for one agency or one organization. It is a collective effort for the greater good of our nation.

We will continue to provide advocacy, amplify grassroots voices, and support every initiative that moves us closer to a drug-free Nigeria," the National Chairman stated.

The Chairman emphasized that NCAAD's role as a coalition is to bridge the gap between government agencies like the NDLEA and community-based organizations working on the frontlines. He called on all NGOs to remain steadfast, noting that the coalition's strength lies in its unity and shared purpose.

He also commended the officers and leadership of the NDLEA for their dedication, courage, and professionalism, noting that their remarkable achievements have earned Nigeria recognition and respect across Africa and the international community.

Emphasizing that government alone cannot win the war against drug abuse, urging parents, schools, religious institutions, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, and international partners to intensify efforts towards prevention, awareness, treatment, and rehabilitation.

UNODC Country Representative, Chiekh Touré, represented by Dr. Akanidomo Ibanga, commended the Federal Government for its balanced and coordinated approach to addressing the drug problem and reaffirmed UNODC's commitment to supporting Nigeria with technical expertise and evidence-based interventions.

NCAAD's presence at the A*o Villa event marked a significant milestone for the coalition, which was established to unite Nigerian NGOs in a coordinated advocacy movement against drug abuse.
NCAAD In a historic moment, at the State House Conference Hall, A*o Villa, Abuja, during the grand finale of celebrations marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, presented an Award of Excellence to the Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Bishop Dr. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu who was represented at the event by the Chairman of Ogoja Local Government, Chief Hon. Christopher Eweh Agbeh. The award recognized her sustained commitment to drug demand reduction and community-based advocacy efforts in Cross River State. This also demonstrates NCAAD's commitment to recognizing and celebrating grassroots advocacy efforts across Nigeria's 36 states.
In line with its mission statement — "leading a unified, evidence-based advocacy movement that prevents substance abuse, reduces harm, and ensures access to rehabilitation and recovery support for all communities". NCAAD is poised to become a formidable voice in Nigeria's drug policy space.
The event, which marked this year's theme, "The World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses," featured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.

NCAAD - National Coalition of NGOs for Advocacy Against Drugs made a landmark appearance on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the State House Conference Hall, A*o Villa, Abuja, during the grand finale of celebrations marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The event, which brought together the nation's foremost stakeholders in the fight against substance abuse, witnessed NCAAD's full representation at the highest level of government, underscoring the coalition's growing influence in Nigeria's anti-drug advocacy space.

In his welcome remarks, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), disclosed monumental achievements in the agency's ongoing offensive against drug cartels.

According to Marwa, in the last 18 months alone, the NDLEA recorded:
- 29, 262 Arrests of suspected drug offenders
- 5,305,484.88 kg Seizures of assorted illicit drugs
- Over N1.5 trillion Value of seized drugs
- 5,225 Convictions secured
"These numbers represent more than just data; they represent millions of lives saved, billions of naira in criminal wealth confiscated, and a future reclaimed for our youths," Marwa stated.

The NDLEA boss also highlighted the dismantling of the notorious Amadi Simon drug cartel through collaboration with the US-DEA and European law enforcement agencies, as well as the neutralization of a sophisticated cross-continental methamphetamine cartel involving a 63-year-old Nigerian kingpin and three Mexican nationals.
