IF YOU ARE AGAINST PRINCE REGENT EDACHE AKOR BECOMING THE ONU-ODA ADOGO OF ETTE, I HAVE MESSAGES FOR YOU!

Sometimes, the behaviour of some people in Ette can best be described as a tendency to support what is wrong while opposing anything that does not align with their selfish interests.

I have read several messages explaining why Prince Regent Edache Akor should not become the Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette. The reasons most frequently mentioned include the following:

1. That Prince Regent Edache Akor cannot become the Onu-Oda Adogo because the throne is not hereditary by direct sonship.

2. That it is the turn of the Ebi-Ega ruling house to produce the next Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette.

3. That it is the turn of the Ochigide clan to produce the Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette.

These three arguments appear to be the major reasons some people are opposed to Prince Regent Edache Akor ascending the throne.
From my personal perspective, and based on historical records of the Onu-Oda Adogo chieftaincy stool, especially past succession processes, the reasons advanced against Prince Regent Edache Akor are largely baseless and driven by sentiment rather than facts.

My name is Comrade Joshua Ojonimi Sule, and I wish to state clearly that if the matter is based strictly on existing arrangements or rotational agreements, it may indeed be the turn of the Ochigide clan to produce the next Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette. However, if the decision is to be based on merit, capacity, and the ability to restore the lost glory of the Onu-Oda Adogo throne, while promoting unity and lasting peace within the Ette community, then Prince Regent Edache Akor stands out as the right man for the job.

If you know what I know through careful study of the historical records of the Onu-Oda Adogo stool and the damage that past practices have caused to the affairs and unity of the Ette people, you will agree with me that this is not the time to argue about “my turn” or “our turn.” Rather, it is time to lay a new foundation, one free from partiality and the destructive interpretation of rotational agreements.

For better understanding, below is a record of previous Onu-Oda Adogo rulers of the Ette Kingdom, from the first to the most recent. This historical reflection is necessary to appreciate why a new foundation for the Onu-Oda Adogo kingship is needed, one that future generations can build upon, instead of continuing a system that has brought division under the guise of rotation agreement.

The idea behind the rotational agreement between the Ebi-Ega and Oda ruling houses, and by extension among the eight clans that make up the Ette community was noble. However, the manner in which it has been practiced over the years has resulted in the erosion of unity and brotherhood among the people of Ette.

For more perusal, below is the list of the previous Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette to date:

1. HRH Onuh Ochigide from the Ochigide Clan.

4. HRH Oodo Ane from the Ebe Clan.

5. HRH Enwe Nwowo from the Ogodo Clan.

Went on a hunting expedition on 14th October, 2022.

9. Who becomes the next Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette?
This question demands deep reflection on past events and a sincere commitment to taking the right action now to restore the lost glory of the Onu-Oda Adogo kingship because tomorrow may be too late.

If we view this issue through the lens of wisdom, free from partiality and injustice, we will clearly see the roots of injustice: brothers betraying brothers, the causes of disunity, and practices that further divide us instead of uniting us as one people with common goals.

Having carefully examined the list of past Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette and the clans from which they originated, one important question arises: Is there any clear evidence of a genuine rotational agreement?
The honest answer is no.
Why, then, do we insist on sustaining faulty systems that have caused more harm than good, rather than laying a new and just foundation? This question remains central to today’s reflection and leads us to one conclusion: Prince Regent Edache Akor should become the Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette for the sake of unity, love, and peace.

Through his reign, a fair and inclusive rotational agreement free from injustice and bias can be drafted through round-table discussions. Such an agreement, once established, will be respected and upheld by all eight clans that make up the Ette community, in line with modern and acceptable chieftaincy practices.
Ette has two ruling houses, and it was clearly stated in the rotational agreement that after one ruling house reigns, the next turn should go to the other. However, history shows that both ruling houses have consecutively produced two Onu-Oda Adogo, while some clans have never produced even one. Yet, we are still expected to maintain peace and unity in a kingship system that lacks fairness, proper procedure, and integrity.

Those who constantly shout “unity” without addressing the root causes of disunity are, in fact, the real problem facing the Ette community today. It is foolish to beat a child and expect that child not to cry. The widespread disunity in Ette is a direct result of injustice, and anyone genuinely interested in restoring unity must begin by addressing these foundational issues. Any effort that ignores this reality is bound to fail.

From the records of previous Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette:

1. The Ochigide clan has produced two out of eight.

2. The Ebe clan has produced two out of eight.

3. The Ishi clan has produced two out of eight.

4. The Enebe clan has produced one out of eight.

5. The Ogodo clan has produced one out of eight.

The above information raises a crucial question: Where are the names of Obi-Idah, Achanya Attah, and Onu-Oda Abah clans on this list, within the same kingdom where a rotational agreement supposedly exists?
These facts clearly show that the so-called rotational agreement has been abused and misused. Therefore, there is an urgent need to lay a new foundation, one that corrects past injustices while aligning with a truly fair rotational system. However, this vision cannot be achieved without an Onu-Oda Adogo who has both the capacity and the genuine will to see it through.

The pressing question, therefore, is: Who has the capacity, the will, and the genuine interest of the Ette people at heart to make this vision a reality?
Without hesitation or doubt, the answer is Prince Regent Edache Akor, a man endowed with the capacity, commitment, and selfless dedication required to usher Ette into a new era of unity, justice, and love. He is the man divinely positioned to open a new chapter in the history of the Onu-Oda Adogo kingship.

In conclusion, based on the facts clearly presented in this article, there is no justifiable reason why Prince Regent Edache Akor should not be crowned the Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette Kingdom in the nearest future. If anyone thinks otherwise, let such claims be supported with facts, not sentiment, bias, or empty rhetoric.

Thanks and regards,
Comrade Joshua Ojonimi Sule

As we assemble annually to commemorate our heritage, let us reflect upon the sacrifices and triumphs of those who have paved the way for us, inspiring us to perpetuate their legacy with dignity and reverence.

This article was supposed to have been published earlier, but I took a break from social media activity that was intended to last for two months. Unfortunately, I lost track of time due to other engagements. The update regarding the Ette Cultural Day 2024 fell short of accurately capturing the essence of what transpired.
While there have been many events of a similar nature in the past, the Ette Cultural Day 2024 stands out as the most remarkable occurrence to have ever taken place in Ette kingdom. The significance of this event should not be measured solely by the number of attendees, but rather by the profound impact it had on the community.

It is inconsequential what transpired previously; however, regardless of the events that unfolded at the inaugural Ette Cultural Day 2024, the absence of the Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette kingdom would have rendered it a mere repetition in a novel guise. Yet, to the divine providence, it materialized as a realization of a long-awaited aspiration.
The gracious presence of Prince-Regent Edache Akor, the esteemed Onu-Oda Adogo of Ette, at the Ette Cultural Day 2024 heralded the dawn of harmony and tranquility within the Ette community at large. Noteworthy was not only the attendance of the Onu-Oda Adogo himself but also the Adogo in Council, alongside the venerable Ette Chief Priest, revered as Ette eldest man.
The benedictions pronounced by the Onu-Oda Adogo, coupled with his uplifting exhortations during the inaugural Ette Cultural Day 2024, have laid the enduring cornerstone of unity and serenity within the confines of Ette kingdom. Subsequent to Prince-Regent Edache Akor's address, he extended his munificent support to the Ette Cultural Day with a substantial contribution of #500,000.
Let it be known that forming premature judgments from a distance is ill-advised; instead, one should approach closer to discern the veracity underlying each persona. It is upon this edifying verity that Prince-Regent stands as a cherished boon bestowed upon the realm of Ette kingdom.

It is essential for any group of civilized individuals to have a leader to oversee their affairs. In light of this, I would like to extend my heartfelt greetings to all the leaders of AIPOE, led by Dr. Honest Ameh, and the leaders of EYCDA, under the guidance of Comrade Ramsey Onogwu, for their steadfast efforts in realizing their shared vision.
As articulated by the prince-Regent in his address, the Ette cultural day is an annual initiative fully dedicated to promoting unity and peace within Ette kingdom. It is imperative to note that only activities aligned with the pro-Ette agenda will be entertained.
In conclusion, the inception of any worthwhile journey is often accompanied by various challenges and anomalies, but rest assured, the path ahead is promising. One's growth is inherently linked to their acquisition of knowledge, and the true voyage towards peace and unity in Ette has been inaugurated through the annual Ette cultural day celebration.

The magnificence and exhibition of Ette cultural heritage during the Ette Cultural Day defies adequate description without acknowledging the prominence of the top grand masquerades in Ette that graced the occasion. The preeminent masquerade in Ette, known as Ekpe, mesmerized the audience at the Ette Cultural Day with its regal presence before the entire populace of Ette and the esteemed Adogo in council. The allure of Ette's cultural heritage was further illuminated by the resplendent of Ekpe masquerade, exuding elegance and charm. Noteworthy among them was the Otara masquerade, which captivated onlookers with its ominous visage and majestic dance movements. A myriad of masquerades hailing from different corners of the Ette kingdom, including those specially invited from various parts of the Igala kingdom, added to the grandeur of the ceremonial dance.

I appreciate the splendor and vibrancy of the inaugural Ette Cultural Day, which was made possible by the generous contributions of individuals who share a commitment to uniting the people of Ette and preserving our cultural heritage. I would like to express gratitude to entire group of donors who provided financial assistance, without whom this event would not have been as successful. May blessings overflow in your path as a token of gratitude for your generosity.
As we commemorate the ancestral day, may their spirits be showered with abundant blessings devoid of sorrow. Despite the prevailing hardships in our country, your dedication to honoring our ancestors with your resources deserves special recognition. May divine favor from above grace your path this year as a reward for your noble actions.
The remarkable contributions of the people of Ette Kingdom towards the success of Ette Cultural Day 2024 exemplify a fervent commitment to restoring peace and unity in our land. Through this selfless act, may the benevolent powers above forgive our trespasses and grant the desires of our hearts within the Ette communities.

Thanks
