BREAKING: Yesterday, bandits have threatened Kaya village in Maradun LGA, Zamfara State, imposing a levy of ₦8 million on residents. The demand is said to be retaliation for the killing of Isuhu Buzu, a known bandit leader, during a recent security operation by Zamfara State CommunityProtection Guard (ZCPG) and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Residents insist they have no link to the incident and say the imposed levy amounts to collective punishment against innocent civilians. The threat has plunged the community into fear, raising concerns over possible reprisals, loss of lives and destruction of property.
Community leaders are urging Government and security agencies to urgently deploy more personnel, intensify patrols and secure Kaya and surrounding areas to prevent further violence. Civilians should not pay the price for counterterrorism operations.
What steps are in place to prevent armed groups from enforcing revenge attacks on the people of Kaya, and when will residents feel safe again?
