We are proud that our Executive Director at Move Against Cancer Africa (MACA), Mr. Caleb Egwuenu, is at the World Conference on Lung Cancer ( ) in Seoul, South Korea.

Mr. Caleb Egwuenu co-facilitated several conference sessions,
- The policy mapping workshop,

- Delivered a presentation on “Management of Late-Onset Immunotoxicity - The often forgotten side of the coin” where he shared the patient viewpoint on how immunotoxicity impacts lung cancer patients and how patient advocacy helps in early detection and management after therapy

- Was recognised as one of the winners of the 2026 African Impact Grant.

As we work towards a more inclusive future for lung cancer care globally, ensuring that African voices are represented is essential to shaping conversations, priorities, and solutions that reflect the needs of all communities.

Congratulations to for bringing together diverse perspectives and creating a platform for all voices to connect, exchange ideas, and strengthen our collective efforts to unite against thoracic cancer.

We have just concluded another impactful session of the African Lung Cancer Community of Practice (ALCCoP) webinar series.

We were privileged to have Dr Emmanuella Nwachukwu deliver a profound presentation on “Lung Cancer in Africa: From Diagnosis to Dignity.”

The session went beyond the clinical realities of lung cancer. It reminded us that it is possible move from diagnosis to dignity — improving outcomes when we combine early diagnosis, equitable access, and patient-centred care.

Some key take-home messages from the session included:

🔹 Early diagnosis matters: delays in recognising symptoms and accessing appropriate care can significantly affect outcomes.

🔹 Access to quality cancer care must be equitable: where a person lives or their ability to pay should not determine the quality of care they receive.

🔹 Africa needs stronger local evidence and capacity to understand and respond effectively to the unique realities of lung cancer on the continent.

The session was expertly moderated by Dr Abiodun Egwuenu and Ogechukwu Akabuike, creating a thoughtful and engaging conversation around the challenges and opportunities for improving lung cancer outcomes in Africa.

At MACA, we believe that improving lung cancer outcomes requires more than better treatment. It requires better systems, stronger evidence, empowered communities, and patient-centred care.

The African Lung Cancer Advocacy Training (ALAT) is a six-month leadership and capacity-building program designed to empower the next generation of lung cancer advocates across Africa.

15 advocates will have the opportunity to join this unique fellowship, which combines expert-led training, mentorship, and peer collaboration to build the knowledge and skills needed to champion patient-centered lung cancer care across the continent.
