As Cervical Cancer Awareness Month comes to an end, our work continues.

These moments capture our ongoing work across sensitisation, education, awareness, and HPV vaccination to protect girls and young women from preventable cervical cancer.

Prevention starts with knowledge, access, and action.

This is your reminder that cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when the right steps are taken early.

Through awareness, screening, and HPV vaccination, lives can be protected long before cancer develops.

At CHESIDS, we are committed to ensuring girls and women have access to accurate information and prevention opportunities, including our work supporting young girls to receive the HPV vaccine.

Share this post, and encourage someone you care about to prioritise their health. Prevention starts with awareness.

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a timely reminder that cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when detected early.

Regular screening, understanding your risk factors, following up promptly on abnormal results, recognising warning signs, and getting the HPV vaccine can save lives. Early action makes the difference.

At CHESIDS, we are committed to prevention through The Next Hundred Young Girls Receiving HPV Vaccine initiative, supporting girls to access protection early, educating them on cervical cancer and reducing future risk.

Prevention is possible. Awareness is powerful. Share this to help more women and girls stay informed and protected.

Effective leadership looks different across contexts, but one thing remains constant: it shapes systems, people, and outcomes.

In this clip from our Conversations with Public Health Leaders series, Dr Charity Usifoh Chenge asks a simple yet powerful question. What are the attributes of an effective leader? The answers remind us why leadership development must be intentional, reflective, and grounded in service.

At CHESIDS, this belief is central to how we raise the next generation of public health leaders through The Next Hundred Public Health Stewards (TNH-PHS) programme, equipping young people with the mindset, skills, and exposure needed to lead well.

Since 2021, The Next Hundred Public Health Stewards program has remained intentional, not just in tooling young public health enthusiasts, but also in placement, practices and results.

Our immersive approach reflects a deep commitment to equipping young public health enthusiasts with real-world experience, meaningful learning opportunities, and structured pathways into the health sector.

From onboarding to the completion of immersion, every milestone marks a steward gaining life-changing skills, confidence to compete, and hands-on experience needed to drive stronger, more resilient health systems.

We are proud of how far the program has come, and even more excited about what lies ahead, even as we continue to invest in youth-led public health leadership across Nigeria.

When she first heard about The Next Hundred Public Health Steward (TNH-PHS) Program during her National Youth Service year in 2022, she had no idea how profoundly it would change her life. Introduced to the opportunity by an administrative unit in her Community Development Service (CDS), the program instantly stood out as a platform to learn, serve, and make a meaningful impact.

“I was instantly drawn to it because it aligned with my desire to learn more about public health and community development,” she recalls. “It felt like the perfect chance not just to pursue my passion for change in the health sector but also to actively contribute to meaningful transformation in my community.”

At that point in her life, uncertainty loomed large. Like many young Nigerians completing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Jane worried about what would come next, especially in a system where opportunities often seem scarce. But discovering TNH reignited her hope and gave her a renewed sense of direction.

As the 16 Days of Activism ends, one truth remains clear: protecting women and girls is not a seasonal campaign, it’s an everyday responsibility.

This year’s Human Rights Day theme, “Our Everyday Essentials,” reminds us that safety, dignity, and freedom from violence are basic human rights. To uphold them, we need all hands on deck — women, girls, male allies who choose to stand as HeForShe champions in their homes, schools, workplaces, and online spaces.

At CHESIDS, we continue to train, advocate, and equip young people to challenge harmful norms and build safer communities. And we know we cannot do it alone.

✨ The campaign ends, but the work continues.
Use your voice. Support survivors. Challenge harmful behaviours. Secure her space!
