She always dreamed of working in tech, but in her small town, opportunities felt distant. With no laptop of her own and internet access limited to a local café, the idea of learning digital skills seemed impossible.

But everything changed when she discovered a free online course on digital marketing. Borrowing a friend’s phone, using late-night mobile data, and taking notes on paper, she pushed through. The more she learned, the more she realized that her skills had value beyond her location.

Fast forward a year, and she is now working remotely for an international company, earning in dollars, and mentoring other women in her community. Her reality shifted, not because she had the best resources, but because she had access to digital learning.

Today, on International Day of Digital Learning, we celebrate stories like Hers. But we also acknowledge that millions of women still lack access to the skills and tools that could change their futures. For many, the Internet is a gateway to education, employment, and empowerment. But what happens when that gateway is out of reach?

At Techy Train Incubator, we are working to close this gap, equipping African women with in-demand digital skills and connecting them to global work opportunities, bridging the digital divide, and ensuring that no dream is cut short due to lack of resources.

Digital learning should not be a privilege, it should be a right.

That skill you’re about to quit? It’s not difficult - it’s just NEW!

We get it - learning something new, especially in tech, can feel overwhelming. One moment, you're excited to dive in, and the next, you're staring at a screen full of code, analytics, or design tools wondering, Can I really do this?

But here’s the truth: Tech skills aren’t impossible; they’re just unfamiliar. Think about the first time you tried to navigate a new app, set up an email, or even use social media. At first, it felt confusing, but with time and practice, it became second nature. New doesn’t mean impossible. It simply means unfamiliar. And unfamiliar things only stay that way until you practice.

Learning to code, manage digital marketing campaigns, design websites, or analyze data follows the same pattern. Every expert you admire, whether a software developer, data scientist, or UI/UX designer; started exactly where you are now, figuring it out one step at a time. The only difference? They kept going. They pushed past the frustration, allowed themselves to make mistakes, and embraced the learning process.

If there’s one thing about our founder, Anurika Joshua, it’s that she never stops finding new ways to create opportunities and change lives.

For years, she has been empowering women and girls across Africa, equipping them with digital skills to help them build careers, businesses, and financial independence. But last year, she took things a step further; this time, for young men too!

She was featured in The Guardian Newspaper for her incredible work on the Yatara Rucha Bootcamp, a transformative program that gave young men in Anambra the tools they need to succeed in the digital world.

Having primarily worked with women, she listened, adapted, and tailored her approach to meet the unique challenges these young men face. The result? More youth equipped with in-demand skills, more doors opening, and more lives being transformed.

But that’s just one side of her story. She’s not only a visionary leader and tech advocate; she’s also a scholar, mentor, and changemaker who proves that true impact knows no limits. Whether she’s shaping future leaders, breaking barriers, or driving innovation, she does it with heart, excellence, and purpose.

She recently graduated with a Master’s in Development Engineering from UC Berkeley; and not just as a graduate, but as one of the valedictorians of her set!

But here’s what makes this even more inspiring: She started this journey as a new immigrant in the U.S., adjusting to a new life while tackling the demands of an intense program. And guess what? She crushed her very first semester with a near-perfect 3.925 GPA!

This achievement is just another reminder that hard work, passion, and a commitment to impact will always make a way. From empowering women in tech to excelling in the world’s top academic spaces, she continues to raise the bar.
