Tackling Open Defecation & Plastic Waste through Innovation

At Green Climate Africa, we believe in supporting young changemakers who are driving sustainable solutions for their communities. One of our dedicated interns, Alamin, is leading a groundbreaking initiative to combat open defecation while also upcycling plastic waste into eco-friendly toilet structures.

Why This Matters:
- Empowering Girls' Education : Many schoolgirls miss classes due to the lack of proper sanitation facilities, and this project ensures a safe, hygienic space for them.
- Environmental Impact : Upcycling plastic waste reduces pollution while providing cost-effective and eco-friendly building materials.
- Climate-Friendly Design : These toilets help regulate temperature, staying cool in hot weather and warm in cold conditions.

We are proud to provide technical support and access to our network of experts and stakeholders to ensure the success of this initiative. Beyond this, Green Climate Africa is scaling up Alamin’s efforts by planning to construct 10 more toilets across Kaduna State.

Together, we are building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future. Let’s support solutions that protect both people and the planet.

Celebrating Women in Climate Action on International Women’s Day

Women are at the forefront of climate action, driving change in communities, leading sustainability initiatives, and advocating for a greener future. Their leadership, resilience, and innovative solutions are shaping the fight against climate change.

On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the contributions of women in environmental sustainability and reaffirm the need for gender-inclusive climate policies. A sustainable future is only possible when women’s voices, knowledge, and leadership are recognized and empowered.

Let’s continue to support and amplify the role of women in climate action for a better and more sustainable world.

Over the past two days, Green Climate Africa actively participated in a Technical Session on Developing a Community Engagement Framework for Climate Change-Related Shock-Responsive Social Protection, held in Kaduna.

The session brought together key stakeholders, including the Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Hon. Usman Danlami Stingo, other legislators, the Special Assistant on Climate Change to the Governor of Kaduna State, and various government MDAs.

This initiative, supported by UKAID under the Lafiya Project, aims to enhance community resilience and ensure social protection systems effectively respond to climate-induced shocks.
