ANU OLUWAPO IJOKO COOPERATIVE RECORDS ₦19.33 MILLION NET SURPLUS, AS STAKEHOLDERS HAIL COOPERATIVES AS PATHWAY OUT OF POVERTY IN OGUN STATE

The role of cooperatives as a sustainable pathway out of poverty has again been emphasized in Ogun State, with stakeholders highlighting their impact in improving livelihoods, promoting financial inclusion, and strengthening community development.

Speaking at the 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Anu Oluwapo Ijoko (Abeokuta North) Cooperative Thrift and Credit Society Limited, an affiliate of Alanuparapo (Abeokuta) Cooperative Thrift and Credit Union Ltd, the Head of Department, Special Duties, Ogun State Co-operative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED), Mrs. D. F. Adekale, stated that cooperative societies remain one of the most effective tools for economic empowerment and poverty reduction in the state.

The AGM, held on Thursday, April 24, 2026, at the Cooperative Union House, Elega, Abeokuta, brought together cooperative leaders, members, and stakeholders across the State. Mrs. Adekale challenged members to reflect on their level of financial commitment, noting that while the society recorded a total contribution of ₦4 million within the year, individuals must ask themselves how much they have contributed. She urged members to contribute more meaningfully and commended them for maintaining order and unity throughout the event.

Also speaking, the representative of the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State, Ministry of community development and cooperatives Mrs. Sulaimon, who serves as the Officer-in-Charge of the Union, praised the society for its impressive performance and adherence to cooperative principles. She encouraged members not to relent in their savings and share contributions, emphasizing that cooperatives operate as structured business models that require discipline and consistency. She further appealed for sustained commitment toward the growth and long-term sustainability of the society, offering prayers for its continued success.

In the same vein, representatives of the Union charged members to embrace investment opportunities within the cooperative framework as a means of enhancing their economic stability.

Delivering the management report, the President of the Society, Mr. Abdullahi Azeez, popularly known as “Olu Omo Alanuparapo,” expressed appreciation to delegates and invited guests for their unwavering support. He disclosed that the society admitted 11 new members during the year under review and recorded a remarkable financial performance, achieving a net surplus of ₦19,338,737.92, a significant increase from ₦12,501,690.58 recorded in the previous year. He also highlighted the society’s membership composition, which includes 14 male and 39 female members.

Presenting the financial report, the Cooperative Administrative Manager of Alanuparapo Cooperative Thrift and Credit Multipurpose Union Limited, Mr. Osunjimi Adeoluwa, reaffirmed the society’s strong financial standing. While acknowledging the impressive surplus recorded, he noted that the society has achieved similar milestones in the past and urged the leadership not to rest on their oars but to intensify efforts toward sustaining and surpassing current achievements.

The AGM also featured the presentation of gifts to outstanding members in recognition of their contributions, as well as commendations to cooperative societies that have consistently supported the growth of Anu Oluwapo Ijoko Cooperative.

A major highlight of the event was the election of new executives to steer the affairs of the society. The newly elected officers include: President, Mr. Abdullahi Azeez; Vice President, Alhaji Moruf Adeniyi; Treasurer, Mrs. Omolola Adeboye; and Secretary, Mr. Olarenwaju Olokunde. Other committee members elected are Mrs. Waliat Ademuyiwa, Mr. Sunday Sowunmi, Mr. Rasheed Ganiyu, and Mrs. Maria Oyenekan.

Prior to the commencement of the AGM, an interdenominational prayer session was held for members, the cooperative society, the Union, and Ogun State at large, seeking continued growth and prosperity for the cooperative movement.

The well-attended event drew the presence of notable dignitaries, including the Union President, Alhaja M. A. Yusuph, and the Vice President, Alfa Adamo Sonde, among others.

The cooperative movement in Ogun State received another boost as Iranlowo Oluwa Leme (Abeokuta) Cooperative Multipurpose Union Limited was recognized for its strong performance and impactful contributions to member welfare and economic development in the state.

This recognition was made known by the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State, Ministry of community development and cooperatives Pastor Sam Mustapha ficp who was represented by the Deputy Director of Cooperative Services, Mr. A. A. Ogunjimi, during the 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Union held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Cooperative House, Iranlowo Oluwa Cooperative Hall, beside Edola Hotel, Leme, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In his remarks, the President of the Ogun State Co-operative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED), Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye, represented by the Executive Secretary, Mrs. Folorunso Olusola Ogundana congratulated the Union on its achievements and urged continued unity, collaboration, and adherence to cooperative principles for sustainable growth.

Also speaking, the President of Egba Cooperative Leaders, Elder E. T. Elegbede, represented by the former Branch President of Abeokuta Central Branch of OGSCOFED Ltd and President of Ogo Oluwa (Abk) CMU Ltd, Alhaji Akinwunmi Dauda, commended the Union’s performance and emphasized the importance of peace and unity. He noted that Abeokuta Central Branch remains the leading branch among the ten branches of the Federation, urging members to sustain the momentum.

In a related development, Rev. (Dr). S. S. Lijadu, President of Ogun State League of Co-operative Motor Owners and Transporters Limited and President of Adun Ife Ita Oshin Abeokuta CMU Ltd, speaking on behalf of the three State Cooperative Apex Bodies in Ogun State, encouraged cooperative societies to cultivate the habit of investing, particularly in any of the recognized state apex organizations, to strengthen the cooperative economy.

Presenting the management report, the President of Iranlowo Oluwa Leme Cooperative Union, Elder Theophilus Atanda Adesegun, FICP, expressed gratitude to God for the progress recorded. He confirmed that all statutory meetings were held as scheduled.

He further disclosed that the Union recorded a net surplus of ₦186,966,355, an increase from ₦116,330,243 recorded in the previous year. He also stated that the Union currently manages a total loan portfolio of ₦2,088,961,855 across its 20 affiliated cooperative societies.

The AGM also featured the presentation of gifts, dissolution of the outgoing executive committee, and the election of new officers to steer the affairs of the Union.

On Monday, April 20, 2026, Ifeoluwaseyi Ita Oshin (Abeokuta North) Cooperative Thrift and Credit Society Ltd, an affiliate of Adun Ife (Abeokuta North) Cooperative Multipurpose Union Limited, held its 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Cooperative House, Adun Ife CMU Ltd Hall, Ita Oshin, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Society, regarded as one of the best within the Union and once ranked among the Top Ten Best Cooperative Societies in Ogun State by the Ogun State Cooperative Federation, has continued to demonstrate excellence and steady growth in its operations.

Representing the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State Ministry of community development and cooperatives , Pastor Sam Mustapha ficp, the Assistant Zonal Officer, Mr. Alalade, congratulated the President, Deaconess Olufunmilayo Bolanle, and members of the Society for their commendable achievements. He praised the unity among members, noting that while achieving results is important, sustaining such success is even more critical, adding that sustainability remains a collective responsibility.

Mr. Alalade further challenged members to evaluate their individual contributions to the Society’s total shares and savings, urging increased economic participation. He also appealed for greater youth involvement in cooperative activities to ensure continuity and future growth.

The Circuit Auditor for Egba and Yewa of the Ogun State Co-operative Federation Limited , Mr. Lawal Azeez Babatunde, who represented the Federation’s President, Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye, also commended the leadership and members for the milestone achieved. He encouraged them not to relent in their efforts and cautioned against informal “side talks” outside official meetings, stressing the need for discipline and unity. He added that the Society should aim higher, as many cooperatives are recording even larger net surpluses.

In her management report, the President, Deaconess Olufunmilayo Bolanle, expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to witness another AGM. She appreciated representatives of the Director of Cooperative Services, the Ogun State Cooperative Federation, Abeokuta Central Branch of OGSCOFED Ltd, the Union President Rev. (Dr.) Solomon Sunday Lijadu (JP, FICP), delegates, supervisors, and well-wishers for their support and presence.

She noted that meetings were held regularly and members continued to uphold cooperative principles, particularly economic participation. Financially, the Society recorded a net surplus of ₦31,985,906.91, a significant increase from ₦19,417,695.88 recorded in the previous year.

The President also disclosed that the Society’s total share capital stood at ₦123,338,764.00, while savings amounted to ₦82,035,188.00, despite prevailing economic challenges. Loans disbursed to members reached ₦265,542,000.00, benefiting 106 members.

While appreciating the support of the management committee and members, she urged continued commitment to the growth of the Society and emphasized the importance of timely loan repayment.

The AGM featured the reading and adoption of the previous AGM minutes and annual accounts, as well as the election of new officers to steer the affairs of the Society.

The elected officers include Deaconess Olufunmilayo Bolanle as President, Mr. Enisemo Olugbenro as Vice President, Pastor Adedayo Emmanuel as Secretary, Mrs. Opeolu Ibrahim Oluwanisola as Treasurer, alongside Pastor Iyiola Omotunde, Hon. Nurudeen Adekanbi, Ven. Banjo Oladipupo, Mr. Funso Ijaola, and Deaconess Adedeji Rebecca as members of the committee.

Other highlights of the event included the presentation of gifts to members in appreciation of their contributions, as well as the distribution of members’ credit.

In his remarks, the Union President, Rev. (Dr.) S. S. Lijadu (JP, FICP), thanked distinguished guests for attending and encouraged prospective members to join the cooperative. His call was well received, as many attendees registered to become members at the event.
