With gratitude to Almighty Allah for the gift of a long, remarkable and impactful life, we announce with deep sorrow and submission to the will of Allah the passing of our esteemed community leader, elder, cooperative icon and distinguished statesman:
ALHAJI (CHIEF) FATAI AFUAPE (JOP)
Jagunmolu of Ijaye Kurunmi
Pioneer Chairman, Abeokuta South Zonal Community Development Committee (1998–2003)
Alhaji (Chief) Fatai Afuape (JOP) passed away on Wednesday, 9th September 2026, at a very ripe age.
He was a great community leader whose remarkable contributions to community development, cooperative advancement and the welfare of his people earned him immense respect and admiration.
Throughout his lifetime, Chief Fatai Afuape (JOP) distinguished himself through dedicated service, leadership and commitment to the development of his community and the cooperative movement.
He served in various capacities, including:
- President, Ileri Oluwa Ijaye (Ab) CTCU Limited
- Former Board Member, Abeokuta Branch 1 of Ogun State Co-operative Federation Limited
- Member, Cooperative Egba Leaders
- Pioneer Chairman, Abeokuta South Zonal Community Development Committee (1998–2003)
- Jagunmolu of Ijaye Kurunmi
His contributions and legacy of service will continue to be remembered by the people and organisations he served.
The remains of the late Alhaji (Chief) Fatai Afuape (JOP) were laid to rest at his Ijaye residence on Thursday, 10th September 2026, at 2:00 p.m., in accordance with Islamic rites.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the immediate family, relatives, friends, associates, the people of Ijaye Kurunmi, the Abeokuta South community, and the entire cooperative and community development family.
His departure is a great loss to all who knew and worked with him, but we remain grateful to Almighty Allah for the long and impactful life He granted him.
May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, grant him eternal rest and admit him into Jannatul Firdaus.
May Allah grant the family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
