....Immediate Past President of Ogun State Cooperative Federation urges continuity as Ado-Odo/Ota/Ifo/Ewekoro Branch records N817,294.44 net surplus

The Immediate Past President of the Ogun State Co-operative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED), Alhaji (Dr.) AbdulRazaaq Ola Balogun, FHNR, CBD, has charged cooperative leaders at both the State and Branch levels to ensure continuity in leadership and safeguard the achievements recorded by the present administration.

Abdulrazaaq Ola Alh Balogun gave the charge at the 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Presentation of Annual Accounts and Statistical Returns for the 2025 financial year of the Ado-Odo/Ota/Ifo/Ewekoro Branch of OGSCOFED Limited, held at the Cooperative House, Ifeparapo Joju Sango CTCU Limited, Sango-Ota, Ogun State.

The AGM brought together cooperative leaders, delegates, government officials, members of affiliated cooperative societies and other stakeholders to review the activities and financial performance of the branch for the year ended December 31, 2025.

In his remarks, Alhaji (Dr). Balogun commended the present administration of OGSCOFED for its efforts in advancing the Cooperative Movement in Ogun State, describing the leadership of the President, Alhaji Olaleye Tunde, as a positive development for the movement.

He also applauded the leadership of the Ado-Odo/Ota/Ifo/Ewekoro Branch, particularly the Branch President, Mr. Olatunji Alaka, for what he described as excellent contributions to the growth and development of the branch.

Balogun further recalled his participation in the Cooperative Federation of Nigeria (CFN) Quarterly Board Meeting, describing the meeting as one of its kind and a demonstration of the growing strength and relevance of the Cooperative Movement.

While congratulating the State and Branch leadership on their achievements, the former OGSCOFED President urged them to remain committed to building a sustainable Cooperative institution.

He, however, expressed concern about the possibility of future leaders reversing the gains already recorded, urging the current leadership to put mechanisms in place that would ensure continuity.

โ€œThe great works both at the State and Branch levels should not be pulled down by successors,โ€ Balogun cautioned, urging cooperative leaders to carefully consider the quality, capacity and commitment of those who would eventually take over leadership.

Representing Pastor Samuel Mustapha FICP, Assistant Director of Cooperative Services, Ewekoro Local Government, Mr. Adebesin commended the Branch for its performance and urged cooperative leaders to exercise due diligence when selecting future leaders.

He stressed the importance of ensuring that successors possess the competence, integrity and commitment required to sustain the progress achieved by the present administration.

Also speaking, the Treasurer of the Ogun State Cooperative Central Financing Agency Limited (CFA), Alhaji Ganiyu Sorungbe, encouraged members to demonstrate meaningful economic participation in the organisation and make full use of the opportunities offered by the cooperative system.

The Ogun State League Director at the branch also addressed members, while the Branch Representative of the Ogun State Women's League, Deaconess Oyewo, delivered a goodwill address.

Presenting the Management Report, the Branch President, Mr. Olatunji Alaka, disclosed that the branch recorded remarkable progress during the 2025 financial year.

According to him, the branch recorded a net surplus of N817,294.44, describing the performance as the highest in the history of the branch.

He disclosed that the branch held all its statutory meetings as and when due, on a rotational basis, commending affiliated unions for their commitment and cooperation.

On education, training and information, Alaka said the branch organised a successful seminar during the year, while members also actively participated in training programmes organised by the Ogun State Ministry of community development and cooperatives.

He added that several unions and primary societies also organised in-house training programmes, manpower development initiatives and symposia to improve the capacity of their members.

The Branch President revealed that efforts to expand the cooperative movement through the establishment of more primary societies and unions continued throughout the year.

He said newly established societies and unions would further strengthen the branch and expand the reach of cooperative activities within the axis.

Alaka also disclosed that the foundation laying of the branch secretariat was carried out during the year under review.

He expressed optimism that construction work on the secretariat would continue in subsequent years, describing the development as an important milestone for the branch.

The Branch President reported that the branch investment performed impressively during the year, with subscribers receiving returns on their investments.

Alaka therefore called on more cooperative societies and unions to subscribe to the investment initiative, stressing that increased participation would strengthen the financial capacity of the movement.

Another major achievement highlighted at the AGM was the establishment of the OGSCOFED Ado-Odo/Ota/Ifo/Ewekoro Investment and Housing Cooperative Limited, in line with the directive of the State Federation.

According to Alaka, the initiative is designed to provide members with access to affordable loans for building, renovation and the purchase of residential properties for individuals, cooperative societies and unions. He urged members to support and patronise the initiative in the coming years.

Presenting the financial statement, the Branch Lead Auditor, Mrs. Timothy Taiwo, reported the financial performance of the branch for the period January 1 to December 31, 2025. The branch recorded a net surplus of N817,294.44, while the trading account recorded a profit of N403,500.

The State account was subsequently presented by the Federation Accountant, Ms. Aminat Sulaimon. The financial performance was received with commendation by members and delegates at the AGM.

The AGM also paid tribute to the late Chief Isiaka Toriola, former President of Ajenifuja Cooperative Multipurpose Union Limited, who died during the year under review. A minute's silence was observed in his honour.

The Branch President described the late cooperative leader as a prominent figure who contributed immensely to the growth and development of the cooperative movement, not only within the branch but across Ogun State.

During the AGM, a 15 per cent dividend from the Branch Investment was distributed to cooperative organisations that subscribed to the investment scheme.

The AGM also featured the election of a new set of board members to steer the affairs of the branch.

The elected board comprises:
- President: Mr. Olatunji Alaka
- Vice President I: Mrs. Oluseyi Oloyede
- Vice President II: Mr. Taiwo Adeyemi
