As part of our unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, SLIDEN Africa, through its Livelihoods Support and Development Centre, proudly supported academic excellence at the 46th Graduation Ceremony of the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB).
In fulfilment of a pledge made on behalf of the Centre by Prof. Kolawole Adebayo, a total sum of ₦750,000 has been fully disbursed as cash awards to outstanding graduating students of the College.

Under the SLIDEN AFRICA–FUNAAB Agribusiness Apprenticeship Scheme (SAFAAS), apprentices recently completed the mechanised threshing and bagging of maize they planted, nurtured, and harvested for market.

This activity exposed participants to:
🔹 Mechanised post-harvest operations
🔹 Quality handling and bagging for market readiness
🔹 The full agribusiness cycle—from production to commercialization

Beyond farming, SAFAAS is equipping young people with real-world agribusiness skills, emphasizing efficiency, scale, and market orientation. By integrating modern machinery into training, the programme prepares apprentices to operate confidently in today’s evolving agri-food systems.

CHANGE OF VENUE - 2026 SLIDEN AFRICA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

We have received communication from our host in Sierra Leone that the 2026 International Conference of SLIDEN AFRICA can no longer hold in Sierra Leone as scheduled. As such, the Coordinator is now in discussion with our member in the Kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland). She has agreed to host us and they are now finalising the details which would be released soon.

Please, accept our apologies for any inconsistencies this shift may cause.

Our hearts were full as we joined the pupils of St. Mary’s Anglican Primary School, Osiele, on the 15th of September 2025 for their resumption. Every child present went home with brand new exercise books — a simple gift, but one that carries hope.

For us at SLIDEN Africa, this is more than an annual tradition. It is our way of saying to every child: “Your dreams matter. Your education matters. You matter.” Representing the organization, Oluwalomenitiola Adebayo reaffirmed SLIDEN Africa’s commitment to advancing education and supporting local communities.

The Head Teacher could not hide her joy, calling the donation “a timely support that lightens the load on parents and brightens the future of our pupils.” The Head Boy added proudly: “These books will help us learn better and make our parents happy.”

In their smiles, we saw resilience. In their gratitude, we found renewed commitment.

We deeply appreciate our partners and donors whose unwavering support makes it possible for us to live out this mission year after year.

Together, let’s keep opening doors for children to learn, dream, and thrive because when one child is empowered, an entire community is lifted.

The collaboration between SLIDEN AFRICA and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta FUNAABNigeria continues to deliver tangible impact through the SLIDEN AFRICA–FUNAAB Agribusiness Apprenticeship Scheme (SAFAAS).

Apprentices under this initiative are gaining hands-on experience in cassava processing, product development, and market-ready packaging for gari—bridging the gap between technical skills and real-world enterprise, resulting in branded, sale-ready products that demonstrate clear enterprise potential.
This model underscores the strategic value of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in fostering innovation, youth employment, and value chain development within Nigeria’s agri-food sector.

By aligning academic knowledge with commercial application, SAFAAS is nurturing a new generation of agripreneurs equipped to transform Africa’s food systems—from farm to factory to market.

🎥 As Agriculture Evolves, So Must Its Actors

Today at the Cassava Processing Unit of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta - FUNAAB, Nigeria apprentices under the SLIDEN AFRICA–FUNAAB Agribusiness Apprenticeship Scheme (SAFAAS) advanced their technical training through a live demonstration of automated gari processing.

As part of their exposure to value addition in cassava, the apprentices operated an automated gari fryer, gaining vital skills in:
🔹 Safe and efficient equipment handling
🔹 Process control and temperature regulation
🔹 Post-harvest value optimization for market-ready gari

This milestone reflects SAFAAS’s commitment to equipping young agripreneurs with the tools and competencies needed to thrive in a modern, mechanised agro-processing environment.

With every experience, these apprentices are building the capacity to lead Africa’s food systems transformation.

Today, SLIDEN AFRICA held a send-forth briefing for the 2025 Marshal Papworth scholars ahead of their departure to Harper Adams University, UK, for a 10-week course on sustainable farming.

Representing the BOT Chairman, Prof. Kola Adebayo, the Coordinator, Bunmi Adeuyi shared key expectations and reflections from past cohorts. Miss Oluwalomenitiola Adebayo, a 2024 scholar, was also present to offer guidance to the new cohort.

With families present to offer support, the scholars departed from SLIDEN AFRICA to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

We wish them a successful and impactful journey ahead.
