We are taking deliberate and meaningful steps to translate policy into practice in the Administration of Criminal Justice in Nigeria.
Last week, we had the Inaugural Meeting of the Steering Committee on the Project for the Establishment of Legal Aid Booths within FCT Courts.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders in the criminal justice system, including the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, the Director of Magistrates (FCT), the Directorate of the High Court of the FCT, the National Youth Service Corps, and the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee.
Conversations focused on developing a clear and practical framework for establishing Legal Aid Booths within court premises—ensuring that indigent persons have access to timely legal guidance and support right where they need it most.
This project represents a critical bridge between policy and practice. By advancing the implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), it brings the intent of the law to life through real, everyday impact.
The Legal Aid Booths will play a vital role in upholding the rights guaranteed under the ACJA, promoting fair hearing, reducing delays, and strengthening the overall efficiency of criminal justice.
We have hit the ground running and there is no going back!
