Our Read to Learn outreach at Mbagbor Primary School, Abakaliki, was such a beautiful and fulfilling experience. The energy, curiosity, and smiles on the children’s faces reminded us why we do what we do.
We began the session by reintroducing our organization and sharing our vision — to inspire children to value learning and see education as the key to a brighter future. The pupils listened eagerly as we spoke about the importance of paying attention in class, doing their assignments, and keeping their notes neat and up to date.
One of the most touching parts of the day was when our team members shared personal stories about their own learning journeys — stories of challenges, hope, and determination. The children leaned in, eyes wide with wonder, soaking in every word.
Then came the academic session. Together, we explored the Basic Science topic “Water Quality.” The pupils were quick to respond as we discussed what makes water good or bad, how to tell the difference, and why clean water is so important for their health. It was amazing to see how engaged they were — asking questions, sharing experiences, and even giving examples from home!
Before we wrapped up, we gave them a little task — to write down key words from the topic, study them at home, and share what they’ve learned when we return next week. The goal is to help them build confidence, improve their spelling and pronunciation, and develop the habit of learning on their own.
As we left, the joy and enthusiasm in the room were undeniable. The session wasn’t just about teaching; it was about planting seeds of curiosity and belief — belief that every child can learn, grow, and become something great.
