The first day ofvthe conference opened woth solidarity remarks and launching the critical study on Climate Change's impact on children .

The second day discuss will be all about Education & Protection.

The discussion will alao incouden the girls' rights, freedom from child marriage, and adolescent Sezual Reproductuve Healtth and Rights (SHRH).

Neighbourhood Initiative for Women Advancement (NIWA) also focuses on child rights.

The conference agenda includes specific sessions on "S*x Trafficking and S*xual Exploitation" and "Freedom from Child Marriage".
NIWA representing the the End FGM Network, Africa allows NIWA to show how FGM often intersects with these other violations, advocating for a holistic approach to child protection.

Influence on Law: The session on "Building Child Protection through jurisprudence from the ACERWC" is where the Network needs to be. NIWA can advocate for stronger legal enforcement against FGM using the collective weight of the Network which has member organizations in the countries of Africa.

NIWA is there to provide the evidence and the local perspective, while the End FGM Network Africa provides the mandate and political leverage. Together, we are using this conference to ensure that African Union policies reflect the reality of what women and girls face on the ground.

Join the discussion.

The "Pan-African" Angle to 16 Days of Activism, a global fight.

From the mountains of Maseru to the hustle of Nigeria, the message remains the same: We must end gender-based violence.

Neighbourhood Initiative for Women Advancement (NIWA) recently visited Lesotho, and is struck by how universal this fight against Hender Based Violence is.
Whether it is the Letsema community gatherings in the South or our push for digital safety and the VAPP Act here in the West, the goal is one.

The 16 Days of Activism begins this Tuesday.

This year, as we mark 30 years since the Beijing Platform, let us not just talk, let's act. "Action the talks."

Neighbourhood Initiative for Women Advancement (NIWA) is ready to .

Neighbourhood Initiative for Women Advancement (NIWA) is attending this conference as a representative of the End FGM/C Network, Africa.

This highlights a strategic partnership where a national implementer (NIWA) elevates its influence through a continental advocacy platform (The Network).

This relationship leverages the strengths of both organizations to achieve a common goal: protecting African women and children from harmful cultural practices.

1. The Connection Between the Two Organizations
Neighbourhood Initiative for Women Advancement (NIWA) and the End FGM Network, Africa boots on the on the partnership, strengths and the power of strong alliance building.

In Nigeria, NIWA works and both national and sub-national levels and also focuses on direct community interventions, empowering women and girls, fighting harmful traditional practices like FGM and human trafficking, advocacy and Policy engagementsand influences among others.
NIWA and End FGM Network, Africa has direct case studies, data, and community trust that high-level policy makers need to see.

End FGM/C Network Africa: This is the "amplifier." It is a continental coalition that brings together various national and local organizations (like NIWA) to speak with one powerful voice to the African Union and international bodies.
They don't just work in one village; they coordinate the movement across Africa to change laws and policies.

By representing the Network, NIWA is stepping up from "doing the work" to "shaping the policy."
We are using our on-the-ground evidence to inform the continental strategies that the Network presents to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC).

How This Relates to the Conference Agenda.
The 27th CSO Forum is the perfect venue for this collaboration to function because the agenda covers the exact intersection of their mandates.

Direct Advocacy on FGM. The agenda explicitly features a session on "Strengthening Movements... to End FGM/C in Africa" led by the Orchid Project (a key partner in the establishment of the End FGM Network Africa). The discuion will be made by Nancy Ifeyinwa Humphrey on Niwa@ Nig and Macharia of Orchid .

NIWA’s presence ensures that the voice of the network is heard during this critical dialogue.

Tackling Interconnected Rights.
NIWA also focuses on anti-trafficking and child rights. The conference agenda includes specific sessions on "S*x Trafficking and S*xual Exploitation" and "Freedom from Child Marriage". Representing the network allows NIWA to show how FGM often intersects with these other violations, advocating for a holistic approach to child protection.

Influence on Law.
The session on "Building Child Protection through jurisprudence from the ACERWC" is where the Network needs to be.
NIWA and the End FGM Network, Africa will continue to advocate for stronger legal enforcement against FGM using the collective weight of the Network and its memebera accross the African region.

NIWA is attending the African Regional Conference to provide the evidence and the national and local perspective, while the End FGM Network Africa provides the mandate and political leverage. Together, we are using this conference to ensure that African Union policies reflect the reality of what women and girls face on the ground.
