I was opportuned to handle a topic on Spiritual Sensitivity as part of our Spiritual Development.
In our generation, there are noises everywhere. Distractions are growing, so much pressures on the young one and it has popped the need for spiritual sensitivity.
Just like our bodies have senses like sense of sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell; we also have spiritual senses.
The young people are not too small to develop spiritual senses, they can begin to perceive and respond to God's promptness. God also spoke with Samuel at a tender age (1 Sam. 3:1-10)
Spiritual sensitivity is the ability of a believer to perceive, recognize, and respond to the movements, promptings, and voice of the Holy Spirit. It is having a "sharp" spirit that is not dull to the things of God.
To succeed as a youth in a world full of distractions and spiritual traps, you must develop your spiritual antenna.
Romans 8:14
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
God does not wait until you graduate before He begins to guide you. As a student, God wants to direct your choices, friendships, studies, character, and future. He does this through your spiritual senses.
HOW GOD DIRECT US THROUGH PROMPTINGS, SMALL STILL VOICE OR AUDIBLE VOICE
1. You feel a strong inner warning not to join certain friends
2. You suddenly understand a subject while reading
3 You see the future consequence of a bad decision
4. You realize a relationship or habit is dangerous
5. You feel uneasy about cheating or exam malpractice
HOW STUDENTS CAN SHARPEN THEIR SPIRITUAL SENSES
•Pray daily, even briefly
•Read the Bible consistently
•Obey small instructions
•Avoid sinful habits
•Keep godly friends
WHAT KILLS SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY
•Sin and Purity Issues:
Just as dust covers a camera lens, sin makes your spirit "foggy."
•Over-Indulgence in Media:
Spending 5 hours on TikTok and 5 minutes in prayer makes your spirit weak and your flesh loud.
•An Unforgiving Heart:
Bitterness is a "noise" that drowns out the Holy Spirit.
Prayerlessness: Prayer is the "exercise" that keeps your spiritual senses sharp.
CONCLUSION
You were not created to walk through life guessing. God wants to lead you, warn you of danger, and show you opportunities before they appear. However, sensitivity is a muscle; it must be trained.
When you surrender your life to Jesus, He gives you the Holy Spirit, who is the ultimate Teacher. By staying in the Word and maintaining a clean heart, your spiritual "eyes and ears" will open. You will begin to see what others don't see and hear what others don't hear.
